Omg thank you thank you thank you!!! This couldn't have come at a better time. May I ask: besides taking it slowly, what would you do if the dog gets up from the bed? Is that still ok to ignore? My dog Peanut (17m/ labrador/ lifesaver/ patron saint of chaos/) changes positions quite a lot. And in the case he gets stressed or channels his inner 70's punk icon and decides "screw the system", how would you end the session without reinforcing him with attention or ending the session? Again thank you so much and can't wait for the settling course! :D Ash

It’s normal for them to get up/change positions in the beginning. I continue to just hang with them and wait it out until they settle back down. If it doesn’t look like they will do that during the session, I would ask for a final “down” behavior then release them and make a plan for how they can be more successful in the next session (whether that’s exercise needs, mental stimulation, or more practice just eating the long chew and releasing).

G'day, I have an Italian Greyhound, 2.5 years old who is quite smart and seems to pick things up easily and quite intuitive. Her name is Bethany. I'm in a wheelchair from a spinal cord injury and need my pain meds regularly which are held in a small pill tray stored under my chair. Sometimes I wish she could collect my meds for me on days where I feel weak or when my pain is extreme and I can't move as they are easily retrievable at her head height and are very light weighted. So I'm going to try teaching her to collect my meds using your method. I love your personality and you convey this teaching method very simply for an old duck like me!😉 I'm 53. Wish me luck and thankyou for your video🙏Regards, Miranda, Queensland, Australia🐾❤

This is so fun to see. I've been wondering if you have ever done a video about the emotional difference between training a service dog for someone else vs yourself? Any tips from your wealth of experience?

For training for someone else, I always remembered that they were never mine and that I’m just a stop along their journey where I am going to give them the best chance of success with their new person and give them all the love and support they need before I turn them over to their higher purpose. For myself, I always involve another trainer who can help me be objective when I’m struggling with my own intrusive thoughts or imposter syndrome. And objective outside party you can check in with is so helpful.

That really depends. The best thing to do is speak with your vet, as well as monitor your dogs weight and body composition score. You can also check out a custom raw feeding amount recommendation here: shop.omaspride.com/doggyu30 And get 30% off raw with code DOGGYU

I know I comment on every one of your videos but thank you so much for posting!!! My baby girl is 14 weeks and I love watching what we can shoot for coming up!!! Our biggest issue is her crying the whole car ride!!! Can I get a video on car manners?! Also, when doing public outings as a young puppy how much heeling versus loose leash walking do you expect?

That was not a total epic fail! I’ve been trying to get Freya to go up the slide at her park for a long time. You just have to keep exposure training him to new experiences! Oh my God Denver got so big! It is so nice to see him with two other dogs and he did not get distracted by the other dogs in this session. I finally got Freja out again in crowds at the mall by my house.

i have a few questions, what does "find it" mean as a command? and how would you do this from coming from behind if the dog is in a "block" position and cant come from the front? and third, how can i teach the dog to "tuck" the tail/paws in so he wont get stepped on? thank yu so much for content!

Im gonna have to practice this with my SDIT. We are mastering her downstays and downstays with distractions. (shes hates doing stays as she wants to be right next to me lol). But this will be our next goal. I do a good job blocking people from petting her (shes shy so she doesnt let strangers touch her anyway) and I have no issue getting loud if needed.

Yes liked video! However, think about those who have issues with flashing lights and different colors and words flashing quickly by causes headaches causes issues so might want to do another one with the slower and not flashing would be helpful for those who have issues with flashing lights I appreciate it thank you. Just a suggestion.

It is amazing how many people feel like it’s ok to pet a SD when we are out. We have a large standard poodle, very well trained to ignore people and their noises. I keep him clean and brushed out, so unfortunately a man shopping in Walmart thought it was ok to run his hand down the SD’s back then yanked his puffy tail. It startled him and whipped the handler around. He is for mobility so this almost caused my husband to fall. Now the SD tucks his tail in public. I wish people would be more respectful. 😢

So well said 👏🏼 I’m currently catching up on your videos and absolutely loving it, so thank you 🙏🏼❤ it reminds me so much of when I was training my puppy SD❤️ and I had the same kind of reaction from people saying I shouldn’t be training a puppy but training a puppy is vital and by starting her young in little sessions she knows her job so well it’s just natural for her. I just wish we hadn’t have gotten attacked by a strangers dog as it meant she lost her confidence out in public and became barking at dogs 😢 she helps me at home but I no longer take her out instead I have my other dog (medical alert dog) in public spaces but I still feel sad because we worked so hard on her training and she did so well up until that point 😢 wishing you and your pup well ❤

The most thing I have encountered is actually a service dog because drs when signing the certification write (emotional support / service dog). And this is wrong cause both are very different, stores accept esa dogs thinking its a service dog and they are not cause service dog need training while esa dont. Iv paid almost 6k in continuous 4 year training and reenforce to have a esa dog bark like crazy against my service dog, I even trained my dog with evade command so dog will ignore any dog that comes by him., but the fault of knowledge between doctors and public employers has made things difficult for real service dog like mine

This is such great advice! I had a Dr walk by and fussed my SD on his way past without asking. the amount of people who try to fuss her is insane I mean I get that she’s a small cute fluffy SD so I get that she hard to resist but it’s super important she warns me as it could be fatal for me and even though I politely explain this when people try to fuss her, they then crouch over and talk baby talk to her but don’t touch her thinking this is fine to do because they didn’t “touch her” yet her vest says don’t distract me. She just ignores them like nope I’m working, to which some people take offence to saying oh is she not friendly, I say she is but she’s concentrating on keeping me safe, so proud of her refusing to be distracted but I think I will do some training like this as a refresher as it’s always good to keep refreshing the training so thanks for the reminder ❤ ps love your puppy ❤

Having camped a lot with my first service dog, and now my second, I have some tips! •foam pad underneath their sleeping area •I had a little pop up dog tent that I put over the sleeping pad. I didn’t zip her into it but it had enough structure that I could layer a blanket on top to loved further insulation and keep more of her body heat in. •blanket nest/sleeping bag inside pup/dog tent •if temps are low enough, a fleece layer or sweatshirt like Goldpaw or Sparkpaws. Such good training! They are so much more sensitive to temperatures than we are. Love seeing this proactive approach. ❤

Hi!! Have you used a word marker for this? I've used "middle" where my dog goes through and then ends up at this safe position. Wondering if i should use a new word marker to this new maneuver even if it ends up in the same place.
@DoggyU
@DoggyU 2 күн бұрын
So for me, how they get into the position matters. So I call this "close" and use "middle" for when they come from behind. Same goes for down. I have a general down (like down from sit) and then a "fold back down" - both with different verbal cues.

My dog dorsnt like bikes or other dogs on a lead. How does this work if you only see someone on a bike occasionally or a strange dog ..
@DoggyU
@DoggyU 2 күн бұрын
You'd want to start with a setup (with a helper) that walks back and forth with a dog, or a bike, and then generalize from there.
