We got our Chihuahua at the shelter. She was housebroken and loved little children. After 14 years she is still active and loving. A little spoiled but a wonderful gift from God.

elderly poodle I just lost my Chihuahua Brandy. Yes I am heart broken. She was the boss of my house and hated our toy poodle. I did not raise her to be mean. She inherited that from her mother and grandparents. She was just an ankle biter. She used to chase my daughters 100 pound Rottweiler around the house when she visited. I had another Chihuahua and her name was Mitzi and she died six years ago. I bought Mitzi from a Korean family. The grand mom will talk to Korean to Mitzi and the dog would run around the house and I couldn’t understand what she was saying. After I took Mitzi to work with me for a week she was definitely my dog . I took her to visit her family and she did not want nothing to do with her mom dad or sister. Yes Chihuahuas are my favorite dog .

Oh, I miss my Chihuahua mix (Paco) that I adopted from the pound in 2001, he was already around 6-8 months old when we got him. He passed away last year in June 2019 at the age of 17 years. Towards the end of his life he just wouldn't eat at all and was always sleeping. it was so painful and sad to see him like that. I tried to keep him alive as much as I could but he was suffering too much and we had to put Paco to sleep. So it has been a year without my baby Paco. I miss him dearly every day. Since he was a mix there will never be a dog like him, he was so unique to me. He had the face/head of a "Deer Head" Chihuahua but his body and legs were long. He looked like a mix of Chihuahua and Toy/mini Greyhound. My baby Paco, I will see you again when I pass-on to the other side, please wait for me Paco!.

@@mommymarz I am doing ok, thanks for asking. Sorry to hear of your loss, Memphis. It is so painful and hard to understand why our beloved pets pass on before us. But I guess that is the way it is meant to be. My Paco was one of three dogs me my my wife save from the pound on or around the year 2000-2001. The first was Shiloh, a mix Golden Retriever which we also adored very much until he passed away before Paco in 2016. We adopted him when he was already at the age 7-8 years. That was tough and painful as well, cried for months. He just could not walk anymore in the end. He was so old and suffering we had no choice. Then came Paco and again the pain in our hearts of another family pet we loved so much passing on. My son around the same time adopted a mix puppy Brown Lab from the pound, his name is Gus and we took him due to my son at the time not having a place to keep him. He must have been the runt of the litter because he never grew up to be the big Labs they are! He's about medium size and has some issues with biting but we kept him and gave him the love he was looking for even though he had those biting issues. He is now 16 years and we are going through the same as Paco and Shiloh again. The painful process of our beloved pets going through old age is so hard that it really hits our hearts. All we can do is tell ourselves that we gave them the best life we can on this earth. They will never be missed and stay in our heart forever until we pass on and meet them again!...Sorry for the long post...I too am crying as I type this! Be well and stay safe!

After my wife died of cancer, my chihuahua slept on my chest, with one paw on my face for 6 months. I had my vet say "boy you two are really bonded." My wife knew enough to leave me this little girl... Koko. I wouldn't have made it without her...

Last year my mother died like a month or two before she passed, i bought her a female chihuahua to help her keep her company.. After she passed we bonded so much ,i love my cheetah so much.. and i think is cause she helped me so much on those quiet sad nights and still does..i swear dogs are awesome

We got our chihuahua Little Man when my husband’s grandparents passed away and no one else volunteered. He had always been an only dog, but he actually adjusted fine to our cats and other dog. I didn’t think I liked chihuahuas, but now he’s the love of my life. He wouldn’t let me near him when we would come visit, but once we were his people he became so sweet and affectionate. Luckily he doesn’t have any aggressive tendencies like growling or barking. He’s just super laid back and loved to snuggle, lie in the sun and go for walks. Bedtime is his favorite time! He’s 17 now and has some dementia, but he’s still healthy and enjoying life. We’re going to keep rescuing older chihuahuas once he’s gone.

I have 2, a 4 yo female named Effie, and her 5 mo female pup named Cookie. I got Effie after a very difficult times in my life, i was staying with family and their dog had puppies and i assisted Effie's birth. She quickly claimed me as hers lol. When i had my daughter, now 2, everyone warned me that Effie was going to be jealous (she is really jealous when it comes to me) and that she might be aggressive toward my baby. I was even told to get rid of her. Im so glad i didnt listen because Effie bounded with my daughter before she was even born. She would lay down and nuzzle my belly when my daughter was kicking. From the second i brought her home, Effie was in love. Never wanted to leave her side and would even creep into her bed when she was crying to snuggle with her and calm her. She was and still is very protective, and has never shown any aggression other than a warning growl with no teeth. They still cuddle and sleep together every night. Lol im the jealous one because i no longer get my cuddle buddy!

I have 2 chihuahuas one I got as a puppy "Frida" & another little senior guy "Duncan" I adopted him from a rescue shelter. Duncan was surrendered by by his owner when he was 4 & I adopted him at 10 years old. So he has been living in a shelter most of his life. He is mentally challenged I believe because he doesnt do anything a normal dog does but I have decided to care after him & let him live his last years with a family that cares about him.

@@dougn2350 Duncan is doing well he's living life to the fullest he can. He is extremely dumb though & hasn't changed one bit since I got him he still pees where he eats &anywhere he wants. He's traumatized though definitely got hit in the head poor guy doesn't know that I'm not trying to hurt him he's extremely uncomfortable when I hold him he will bite me. However I don't think this would be the case with that puppy & I would give it a chance. I don't think that puppy would be like Duncan so give it a chance lol

My baby boy Romeo is 16 yrs old. He sleeps in his bed all day and in my bed at night. He has been with a cough past 5 yrs. He has arthritis back leg and hops on 3 legs. Most times I carry him in the house. He refuses all dog food; I give him my food. I love him so much that the thought of his passing causes me pain. My dog Rosie is so smart. She's a rescue from the humane society. Since I adopted her , I have been rescued. She is a raindeer chihuahua. She has chronic dry eye.if anyone knows a cure I would be forever great full. She is 3.5 yrs old and 100% loving. I currently put eye drops in several times a day.a anti biotics gelll is also used.she tends to paw at it . this is a sign its dry.it also gets gummy and needs to be cleaned out several times a day.

Neither type coat is expensive to maintain. And if you're talking about buying as a puppy they're probably about the same. Ive seen chihuahua puppies advertised for as much as $4000. But why pay that when you can get a young rescue chihuahua from a shelter for far less.
