The pictures of apple and Sherlock sleeping together is so sweet, it reminded me of the first dogs we had when I was a child benny was a Blenheim boy he would always lay curled into a ball and and Missy my tri girl would always climb on top and curl up right on top of benny! Missy was a very small girl probably not much bigger than Sherlock is now when she was an adult. Missy was so bonded no matter what we tried she would cry and howl if she was separated from benny.

Wow,80!Well done to reach such a great age and be fit and healthy.I am 77 and sometimes I worry I am too old for my active little cavalier.But,I walk her twice a day and play regularly with her.She gets to go to the beach at last twice a week and that is good as she can socialise with all the other dogs.She is happy and bright and so I just do my best for her.

Happy Belated Birthday. Sherlock is growing up into a hand cavalier. When we first brought Willow home Winston was scared of her. lol but they are becoming good friends ow and enjoy playing together. Winston likes to grab a toy wishbone and tease Willow with it and make her try to get it out of his mouth. lol

Love the dogs, our cavalier often snores a lot when she is asleep. Do you find yours do the same thing and if so, how do you both sleep with the dogs in your bedroom. Our Apple has been trained to sleep 12 hours in her crate in our laundry away from our bedroom, so we all get a good night's rest. Hope you get sleep!

I've found that it's an individual characteristic; some Cavaliers snore profusely, but most do not. Our girl Tag, who passed away a few months ago, was the only loud snorer we've had in recent years.

I'm glad you had a nice birthday and got the chance to see and visit with a lot of friends and family. What a wonderful surprise. Never feel guilty about letting the videos slide for things that are more important in the grand scheme of things. Nothing cuter than dogs playing--except maybe them sleeping together. So we got a double shot of cuteness to start off the morning. I'm also glad to see that my three aren't the only ones who go out the door barking for all they're worth--whether there's anything to bark at or not. My husband and I just say "the invisible aliens are back". I have a question (and it's really none of my business, so ignore it if you wish). So, Bella is in season. Isn't Sherlock at the age yet where he's starting to "notice" things like that (or is he still too young)? If he's too young, when will he begin to be receptive to a pretty girl in heat? My experience is with rescues (most of them adults) and if they come in intact, they don't stay that way long (assuming they are healthy enough for the surgery; some of them are not and must be given quite a bit of care before that can happen-yep, we take ones that are 3/4ths the way dead; the ones with broken bones; the ones with heartworms. Most we save, some we cannot.), so I'm quite ignorant about breeding.

Thank you for rescuing Senior and challenged dogs. I just brought home my third senior rescue. These dogs are so happy to have a safe home with lots of snuggles, treats and soft places to sleep. I thought it would be too hard to take on a hospice foster but it was an honor to make sure he died in safety and peace.

@@divadaedalus You have my deepest respect and admiration. We've taken on one hospice foster and while it was a great deal of comfort knowing the last little bit of this girl's life was spent in comfort and being loved (and spoiled), we found it very difficult to lose one so quickly. I think part of the difficulty was that we made the decision to have her euthanized (rather than her dying "naturally"). She'd gotten to the point where treatments and medications weren't enough to keep her comfortable and she was suffering, so we made the decision to help end her suffering (with our vet's counsel). It broke our hearts, but we knew it was best for her, it was the kindest thing to do (but also a difficult thing to do).

Sherlock had a rough beginning to his life, and his development is not at all average. His testicles have still not descended, and we are not sure they ever will .... but hope springs eternal. He tried to mount Bella a few times, but he couldn't really effect a tie yet, so I was not worried. Most of the time, Bella was being seductive, and Sherlock was saying "Let's play!"

@@chaskat35 Thanks for the reply. So this brings up another question. Does cryptorchidism result in increased incidence of some cancers in these dogs, such as testicular cancer? We've gotten in a few cryptorchid dogs in rescue and all I know is that it's more difficult to neuter them and involves abdominal surgery.

I assume you mean cavies to refer to cavalier King Charles spaniels, however in Australia cavies is the correct term for guinea pigs.

I actually don't ever use the term "cavies." I normally refer to them as "Cavaliers" unless I use the full 4-word title. Now that I know what cavies refers to in Australia, I'll be extra careful to avoid using that word.
