We had a Cairn waaaay back in the 1950s and 60s; she was LOVELY! She came to my parents before any of us were born, and there were three of us! She was SO gentle and good; never bit us - even unintentionally, and we loved her dearly. I had an Oil Painting commissioned for her from an old photo - she was worth every penny!

I have had four (3 boys and 1 girl) Cairns, plus my sister had one of my dog’s litter brothers who would stay with me during summers. They are awesome little-big dogs! They have an incredibly well developed sense of humor and play; my dogs will create their own games and insistently include us humans in them. Also, an interesting trait that one of mine had was he knew the exact names of every single one of his (many, many) toys and if I asked him for a specific toy, he would go to his toy box and root around until he found it and bring it to me. I still have two boys now Fonz (11) and Finnegan - a rescue at 11 years old - 12.5 now. They are my “little old men“, but still as playful as puppies. I still miss my others, my beloved first Cairn, Asta, and his brother Cooper, and my Sweet Caroline, all so much.

If we allowed her, our Cairn would direct our days signaling us in various ways: it's time to get up (pawing at the side of the bed); I need to go out in the backyard; let's go for a walk; what does a dog have to do to get something to eat around here? Look at me (as she pops up with a wiggle)-I want some of that, too; It's time for you to go to bed; come and see this washing machine is making that noise again - I'll tell it to stop; the garbage truck is here!!! I need a belly rub. And so it goes on. Never a dull moment.

They obviously were not used to a 1 year old dynamo on crack. He was wild. He is our 4 th Cairn. Loved each one to the moon and back. Shadow is loyal BUT anybody new is like Space Mountainat Disneyland. He goes nuts for my PT. Our Cairn Rescue people love him - kept him when we couldn’t take him (cruises). Otherwise, he was a great traveler. Now it’s one day at a time.

I absolutely ❤ my Cairn Terrier . I'm a 54 years old and have had multi big dogs for family Pets my entire life so after retiring and divorced after 20 years this little Toto looking dog just kind of fell in my lap after a couples little army of boys terrorize the poor pup so she needed to find a good home for him and so I got very luck cuz my little man is a full package of everything great to make a great Companion - he's adorable , incredibly smart and he truly is a happy ,sweet loving dog with a great , disposition cuz he's not too hyper but a times getting the "zoom- zoom or zoomie " personality but it's not a hyper dog or lazy and he is also an awsome GUARD dog too , at night time it's like a flip of a switch and years go up and and turns into cujo on me and he loves to play with kids and other dogs and our cat chases him most the time but they're bestfriends and didnt grow up together either. I'd give the Cairn Terrier a 10+more an A+ for a family pet , small guard dog, a perfect all in one special dreed dog for sure ! Brings us joy everyday ❤

Why do you let a 12 pound dog run around your neighborhood? Your just another person that shouldn't own dogs. Their way overconfident for their size and can be killed by racoons birds a group of cats. If I see people like you letting your dog run around town I will be calling animal control and probably fuck your shit up if I know where you live. How did he die? Probably mauled by a coyote or any aggressive neighborhood stray that got out

@@geodude6244 Hey, you are too harsh on your words. You don't even have any idea where I live. It's simply not the same place in your imagination. It's safe here and probably not the same as yours. @@ceolbeats7182 awww that's really lovely of you to say. Cairns are lovely. My girl follows me everywhere I go. They all do but she literally doesnt leave my side. I have had many many rescue dogs over the years - mainly large mastiff types as they are the ones that get put down because they are not socialised and dog aggressive so my hubby and I took them in as we had the room to do so. Sadly he passed away last year and we only have 2 mastiffs left - both very old, about 10 years old the vet reckons which is a good age for their breed. I rescued 3 little girls from Serbia last year to help my daughter cope with the loss of her daddy. She is only 8 years old so isnt allowed to hold the 2 bigs ones on their leads when we walk them so I got her the 3 little ones - 2 of them are mongrels and the 3rd one we think is a corgi x jack russell. These 3 were found together and I couldn't bear to separate them so I adopted them all. So, in total, I currently have 7 rescue dogs. My 2 old mastiffs are both males and absolutely hate each other so they have to be kept apart and walked separately fortunately, neither of these guys mind females so I made sure I got female rescues. I LOVE Ceasar Milan!!! I've learnt a lot from him. Xx

Westies were bred from cairns. A man accidentally shot one of his dogs, mistaking it for a fox during hunting, and after he began selectively breeding white and cream dogs to create west highlands whites. Cairns born white are automatically west highland whites for registration purposes (AKC). Cairns are also one of the oldest terrier breeds originating from the Isle of Skye.

Dior Star Definitely need 2go vets, obviously flees or even their dam eggs can irritate, must be given flee treatment 1 month or your house will become infested, wormed every 3rd month, or she will get worms that can irritate them. I have a cairn apparently those dogs are prone to skin allergies😞 sadly my dog has skin allergies but I didn't want her on those steroid treatments, as the long term side affects r bit crap, but if dogs are in such discomfort u don't have a lot of choice!! Mine is on a new form Apoquel, supposedly milder&minus side affects on lower levels, she has been on them 4yrs we think it's grass allergy as she still has little paw chew@ grass season. I also found on line&put her on Vdog vegan dog dried biscuits it has less additives, & I steam froz veg2add. If skin allergies are not treated they can be come irritated & un happy, it's so nice seeing my dog not licking or scratching, & she is a lot happier. Check on line food allergies, some have rice n potato allergies all found in dried biscuits!!!! My vet gave me a stinky shampoo@1st that had2 b left on4, 15mins she hated that stuck in bath 🙄done that for several months, but she still itched, u might be lucky & the anti histamine treatment might work, good luck👍🏻
