I know this happened in the book "The Three Musketeers", but I can't believe Dogtanian is picking a fight with Porthos near the end of this episode, when in the previous episode he defended Porthos' honor and apologized to him for making a mistake

I have just found out that the words between each line of the chorus are actually left in from the Spanish version and they are singing "D'artacan", the Spanish name for D'Artagnan. It seems his name was only altered in the English version.

It's the spanish name of "Dogtanian". Not D'Artagnan. :)

in Spanish "can" means of dog. It's not the most common way to say it("perro" is the most common word), but it's a nice way to change the name of the character by just changing a single phoneme.
