I grew up with German Shepherds but always wanted a Scottie. I finally got one and he was the best dog I have ever had. Full of personality and love. My vote is for the Scottie.

My first two Scotties went to Heaven 8 years ago. I have two Scottie girls they are my precious babies. The two Scotties that I have now saved my life in 2018. It had been raining alot of standing water. We were going out on porch to survey the world one morning. There was a poisonous snake swimming by my girls killed the snake. My youngest baby bit the snakes head off but not before the snake bit her three times. We immediately rushed her to Emergency Hospital where she stayed overnight taking a anti-venom treatment much like chemo. She is my special angel and sleeps beside me every night protecting her mommie. And her mommie protects her. She was only two ounces when she was born, she survived cancer. She is the boss of our home and I love her beyond imagination ❤

I've had 7 Scotties over 54 years, Morag, Piper, Aberdeen, Murdoch. Fearghus (copper brindle), Darcy and Fionnaghan (wheaten). They were bred to hunt nasty badgers and are like cinder blocks with huge teeth, a broad chest and large muzzle, they can inflict damage. They are cute but I would not have them around small children and YOU have to be the boss because they are smart, independent and stubborn, not lap dogs. My girl Aberdeen saved me from a bear when I was hiking near Lake Superior. She charged it grabbing it underneath and it fled. That being said she was the most gentle one I ever had. She had a real sense of humour, pranking me and hiding things. I would demand she get the hidden items and she would just wag her tail but when I put my hands on my hips she knew I meant business, LOL. Although pure bred I find you underestimate their weight. Mine ranged fro 22 to 33 pounds but none were obese. I think they are breeding them smaller now as lap dogs...which they are not...but are hunters and rowdy companions. Wouldn't have any other breed.

Scotties are the best always. Not to be compared to any other breed. A scottie is tops..I got my 1st scottie puppy in 1979. I was hooked, they were the only breed for me. Totally I had 5 scotties in 43 years .Sotties are sweetest most loyal. 💖❤❤❤❤😊😊

My dad had a Scottie as well when he was a teenager in the late 80s/early 90s and it was called Jock and was really well known throughout our town at the time because he more cat than dog. He didn’t need to be taken out for walks because he took himself for walks whenever he liked! He would just walk straight out of the house and walk down the Main Street and my gran would often have to drive down the town to try and find him and he would just be walking around happy as ever

I've owned Mini Schnauzers for ages and they have always been worth the investment. Just be prepared, they love to talk. They are very social and will not hesitate to let you know what is on their mind or what they have spotted in the back yard. XD Super fun dogs and I love them to pieces!!!

My scottie was amazing. They are so loving and loyal. Highly recommended. Somehow we manage to train it to walk without a leash. I wish I remembered how my parents did that but it's true they are very independent! He never wanted to come back after walks but that was alright with us, so always had super nice long walks, twice a day. :)

We own an 8-year-old miniature schnauzer and we adore him. He is intelligent and loving, mostly easy to train. He has had a health problem of developing bladder stones. He's had 2 surgeries so far which has been very traumatic for him. We keep him on a strict diet that our vet has prescribed but no matter what we try his urine is very concentrated and this contributes to the problem. We love him so much and hate this problem but we would still have adopted him because he is really a wonderful dog.

Lol my Scottie is the opposite. She’s the one sprinting around and trying to climb every high rock she sees when we go on hikes. She prefers off leash since I can only really walk about a mile and a half before I need a break. She doesn’t have time for a break lol

I had a mini schnauzer. He was the best dog I had. He was my guardian, and my companion. I brought my ex boyfriend home and he wanted nothing to do with the ex. When I brought my current boyfriend home, he treated my boyfriend as if he was apart of the family. Before he had made me his human, I was looking at moving into an apartment by myself and leaving him with my parents, as he was my mom's dog at the time. I had decided to get a Scottie as my dog for this new apartment and was looking forward to having my own dog. But, something happened and I decided to stay home, and my schnauzer went from being my moms dog to my dog. He earned his wings on July 3, 2019. I miss him everyday and love him still. RIP Peanut.

Our beautiful Katie was a joy for our whole family. She was funny, loved to play any time and with anyone. Katie was the bravest dog we ever owned and even scared off a huge, mean male Rottweiler that tried to come after my young son out in the yard. Katie wasn’t outside, she was sitting in the window above the Rotty’s position and when she started cursing and yelling at him, he must have thought she was a huge monster ready to attack, so he ran away. Actually Katie’s was in her favorite resting spot up on the back of the couch where she could guard her territory and scare off intruders. Without Katie, I know what would have happened to my son. Brave, intrepid, loyal, energetic, and incredible fighters when necessary. Katie put the fear of God into that Rotty. She was also a very clever mouser!

I grew up with Scotties here in nz. Our last one died when I was in my teens. We were going to get another one but there was far too much inbreeding in nz creating problems. Morag, our last dog, loved walking, hunting for rabbits and riding in a wooden box on our bikes. She was extremely clever & always managed to escape from a well locked back yard. We taught her many tricks & she would walk well on a leash, stay, come sit etc in obedience training. An excellent guard dog & indefinitely a one family dog. I am concerned about your grooming technique advice re clipping. We groomed her most days & dad taught us how to remove the soft undercoat with our thumb and fingers.,

Both breeds look quite desirable. I've had the mini and it's true he suffered from separation anxiety. But didn't require "45 mins" of daily exercise. He was awfully lazy, but was good with just a short walk. They're great for small homes.

My mini schnauzer turns 18 next month and she is a special individual that never barks and doesn't have preydrive so we had a solid off leash walk by age 3 even during dog meetings during walks and we enjoyed many tricks while she was in her prime. She has always loved everybody that she meets from the elderly that can't speak from a stroke to the child thats afraid of dogs and she turned them right around making the afraid kids huge fans of her. The mini schnauzers are so adaptable and will agree to any activity you suggest. Ever wanted to try agility? Game on! Search and rescue course? You're in luck because their nose is excellent and they love doing things with you. Party tricks to show your friends when they come over? Call me a circus dog because for the right reward I'm all yours! I couldn't have started with a better breed. There will always be a schnauzer shaped love section in my heart. ❤
