I use to have so many dogs of this breed because my boy dog was always reproducing haha. They’re very gentle and loving. Too bad they all were eventually sold, died of old age, and the last one I had passed away due to having multiple tumors and had to be put down :(

I dog sat a Cav for several months and now getting one of my own is all I can think about. I am 6’1” tall and always wanted a large dog, like a retriever, German shepherd, sheep dog, etc. I figured because I have spinal issues I don’t want to have to bend over too much to pet my dog. But holy shit I was not at all ready for how much I’d fall in love with this little guy. He gave me so much love, I couldn’t help but love him back. He would lay in my lap or on my chest, follow me all over the house. Absolutely adorable and I miss him so much. I cried when the owners moved to another country. And now I want my own haha. I had a King Charles got him when I was 5 and he was 7 months old, he just passed away in October at 17 years and if I have learned one thing it’s that he was the most loyal,sweet, and well behaved dog I’ve ever met and owned so far in my lifetime. Never snapped at me messing with him as a kid he would sit outside my bedroom door in the mornings and wait for me to wake up since he wasn’t allowed in my room. The best dog ever, miss him so much. I would absolutely in a heart beat own another💙

I used to have one. He was a rescue dog. Great dog and I loved him to bits. He hated kids. Would hide from them, if they got too close he would growl at them. I can only assume that before I had him, he was at a home where kids traumatised him or hurt him. I used to take him everywhere with me, took him camping, out on speedboat, nights away from home. Nothing phased him (apart from children) as long as I was there. I never thought I would get so attached to a dog, but he was my best friend. Had him about 8 years, and they were a fun 8 years. Had to have him put to sleep, and it’s getting on 20 years ago. I miss him.

Freckles is 6 months old today. An energetic, super playful, almost constant chewer of toys (almost all of his baby teeth are out now), cuddler (loves to be in your lap or laying beside you) and incredibly intelligent. He sleeps with me, and at first I was worried about him falling off my high bed. After a few nights, once I knew he was close to jumping down, I put a foot stool at the end of the bed. One minute to train him to get up and down safely, and 30 minutes to attempt to puppy-proof my bedroom. We are 68 years old, and with the pandemic, stuck pretty much at home and living a very lazy life. I had asked for a treadmill for Christmas, but was gifted this fur baby instead. Oh, there are some days I think the treadmill would have been better, but this little bundle never lets me escape or put off exercise! While the aching back and legs are improving, I have already lost about 7 pounds. The puppy stage is a 24/7 awareness, as the super nose wants to get into everything, but I'm sure that is true of all puppies. I have no doubt that training will be super beneficial for this breed, and that's next on our agenda now that he has settled in to his new forever home.

I really have my heart set on this breed. I suffer from bad anxiety and I’ve heard cavaliers are great therapy dogs and amazing companions so I feel having one would help a lot. I still live at home and we already have 2 dogs one being an 11 year old boxer pitbull mix, our family has always had dogs we can’t imagine life without our fur babies but we do wish to have a smaller breed this time around.

Hi Jessica, my mum suffers from severe anxiety and I can say that our three Cavvies are absolutely incredible. They rarely leave her side, their faces are a delight to behold and their temperament is perfect for service dog training. Plus on days where you feel low, all you need to do is stroke their silky ears and they’ll shower you with kisses!

I was actually just diagnosed with bipolar disorder alongside the anxiety, unfortunately with us having two dogs in such a small house my parents say I will have to wait but I’m saving up money going towards getting a cavi from a breeder as well as saving money to go towards vet bills. This is something I wish to be responsible for and me alone to grow in maturity. being without a job is hard enough but it’s given me the time to do such thorough research on the breed. :)

I must admit I'm toying between getting a Cavalier or a Yorkie. May I suggest a book to help with your anxiety - it's called Self Help For Your Nerves by Dr Claire Weekes. It explains all of the symptoms including panic attacks and how they are not harmful and how to cure them using her acceptance method - which is becoming quite a golden standard these days.

Cav’s are gorgeous! So loyal, social butterflies and quirky! One night we woke to our girl barking at something on the other side of the fence, to find it was a broken egg shell. An Egg Shell!!!! She was so proud, doing her duty to protect us… yet she’d wag and be all over the postman 😂 Also the snoring. My dad was her absolute favourite, she’d back herself into the armchair with him (completely squashed) and snore as loud and in unison with him. Such funny character’s! As far as health stuff. She did get ‘Summer Itch’ on her back from about 4 years of age. Am in Australia with high humidity and hot summer’s!! Haircuts in summer can lessen this! She would get a lot of gunk in her eyes, nothing that eye drops couldn’t fix and got I’ll at 8.5 with a urinary tract infection that led to her losing weight and decline. I don’t know if that is common in CAVs. Totally recommend them though

Thank you for this wonderful video that is teaching me all about this beautiful dog. We went to the dog park yesterday here in Vancouver B.C. and saw one of these beautiful dog. He came up to us, giving us a lovely tail wag and he let us pat him. He was so calm and loving and had super beautiful big eyes, like a deer. Our CAV would of corse stare at you when you ate food, but taught herself to have a fake problem with her eye, so we’d feel sorry for her and give in. She did occasionally have problems with gunk in her eyes and need eye drops, and got lot’s of attention. She was a smart little cookie, so very funny too

HUGE LOVE MUFFINS! You have to bond well and train them well. I owned 2 of royal breads as Blenheim females for over 12 years. They are most a beautiful breed. It is expensive to own and require grooming needs and love to walk and play always. But they sure will melt your heart forever with so much love. Mine went all over in great travels and loved it...but eager to go home. LOL!

Like many, myself, family members and friends have owned many breeds over time. I can't recommend Cavaliers enough if you want an affectionate dog that loves people. Our Cavy we rescued at 4 years old goes to the weekly farmers market and is gentle with children in strollers to the elderly. Friend also owns one and it just wants love. My regret is not being familiar with this breed earlier in life.

Cavaliers are the best spaniels. I've had several Cockers, spaniel mixes, and a Field Spaniel. Cavaliers show their love for their owners MUCH more than the others. They're also more emotionally sensitive and physically delicate. They tend to have more serious health issues later in life compared to other spaniels, but these days there's DNA testing available to breeders, so INSIST on that if you get a puppy (of any breed, but especially Cavs). Also note that Cavaliers have a reputation as quiet dogs, but mine is a LOUDMOUTH...so don't take breed standards as gospel (actually Cavs make good watch dogs). They're also more active than you might expect. Lastly, they snore like idling motorcycles. I bought my Cav from an experienced veterinary technician who DNA tested all her dogs, immediately sent me photos of both parents when I requested them, and answered every question I had as thoroughly as if I were in a vet's office. She advertised the litter on the best known puppy website. I spent almost a full year looking at puppies of various breeds, and over that time it became clear to me which breeders were trustworthy and which ones to avoid. There are specific things to look for that are listed in articles, but in the end the most important thing is your gut feeling that "I'm making a smart choice with a smart breeder." Conversely, if you have any feeling that there's possibly something "not right" about a choice, the feeling is probably correct.

$2500 on the high end? We paid $3500 for our little girl in 2013. But her mom was a national grand champion and the only reason the breeder sold her was because she has a slight snaggle tooth which she thought would affect her chances of winning. We did bring her back a couple years later for a visit since we were passing during a vacation and after seeing her told us if she could go back she would have kept her. I'm glad she sold her to us though as she is the best dog either my wife or I have ever had.

We enjoyed out ruby cavalier for just under ten years when his heart valve just disintegrated. We miss his presence but we were blessed by the joy he gave us. I learned that all of these dogs have the problems so they cannot be selected out. That said, with all the genetic defects the breed has I think a group of experienced breeders should begin the breeding from the beginning again. All Cavs can be traced back to six dogs that formed their common ancestors, and their defects. Begin again- with genetic testing used to dodge these terrible fatal problems and the heartache of suffering and early death they and their owners endure.

We too had out tri-colour for just under 10 years. She had syrngomyelia, sadly 70% of Cav’s have this trait. She also had problems with her eyes, ears and also had a heart murmur. Our Cavalier was so loving and followed us everywhere and was so friendly to children. Sadly we lost her to syringomelia, she was having spasms and could not drink, bark or move her head. She was in a lot of pain very quickly. For this reason I would ask the breeder to do an MRI on both parents before taking on another Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Listen to the health. They will get it. I had 2 and each one had each disease. It is extremely hard to watch this beautiful gentle breed come down with each one. There will be vet bills. This is one breed that NEEDS to have other DNA in it to snuff out these cruel genetics.

I am currently researching different dog breeds with the hope of getting a puppy within the next year or 2. The Cavalier is in my top 5 but what I would like to know is are they good with cats? I have 3 indoor cats at home so I am looking for a breed that will bond well with them

We have a ruby caveleir pup their so sweet and cuddly definitely recommend.
