This route by motorcycle is very popular - particularly the Mae Hong Son loop portion, and we had considered renting a motorbike for about 5 seconds. For many reasons, we decided to rent a car: doing a pick-up in Chiang Mai and then dropping it off in Chiang Rai. It was the perfect solution for us.
