Weekend at Doi Tung, Chiang Rai. At 1,389 meters high, Doi Tung rises steeply close to the Thailand-Myanmar border. Things worth seeing are Doi Tung Royal Villa, the former residence of Princess Mother Srinagarindra, and Mae Fah Luang Gardens; a botanical park on the slopes below the royal villa. I stayed at the Doi Tung Lodge, which offers a panorama view of the surrounding area, as well as a comfortable stay in a peaceful and natural environment. The building was formerly used as a residential hall for members of the Princess Mother’s entourage and officials of the Doi Tung Development Project. Today it is a hotel for tourists.
