That girl washing cars with the kid on her back is probably Burmese not Thai. Many of these low pay jobs aren’t done by Thais but by Laos, Burmese or Cambodians.

The Laos, Burmese or Cambodians are also illegal immigrants. By the way, the children begging are also of that group.

The term shitty job does not reflect well on them, why not use the term menial jobs ?. They work and provide for themselves and/or family. At least they’re working trying to provide . It makes us in other countries realise how lucky we are .

Horrible statistics on deaths on the road there. My guess is these drivers on scooters are having one of the roughest deals out there. The heat and constant exposure to a chance for an accident for tiny pay is just so bad.

Really like how you keep it real mate. My Thai ex wife whom is a computer programmer, makes over 100k in the states. Even with almost a decade of working in the states she never wants to go back and work in Thailand in spite of preferring to live in Thailand. Talks about how even with a higher status job she would still be dragged over the coals, and basically be a slave to her employer.

Don't be feeling guilty about your car being washed for 200thb and wondering how little they get out of it. Quiet simply do what I do and give them a tip, and I don't mean a measly 20 or 50thb. Give them 100thb and u won't feel so guilty as u will have done a good deed for such a small tip out of your pocket but a great deal to them.

@@jacksonj3082 Most people in the west forgot how to smile decades ago and work till they die . In debt up their eyeballs and always at work . Low earning Thais have a far more fun and engaging life than the average Westerner ( Stuck in an office paying for a car and house they are never in as they are always at work ) .. Thats Why people love it here . This guy is viewing Thailand through his western eyes ,comical as fxck . Materialism has shafted the west . I retired at 36 here and view things slightly different .

After 7 1/2 years living in Bangkok, it amazes me how great the customer service is under such terrible wages. Almost everywhere I go. I’m greeted with a friendly smile and very cordial attitude. Maybe it comes from the Buddhist teachings.

I disagree, it's not that good - face masks everywhere even though it is nearly 2025. Face masks are depersonalising and incompatible with good customer service. I travel a lot, and only Thailand wears masks this incessantly, even China has moved on. The Land of Smiles tagline is a complete con.

How long have you lived In Thailand? Maybe your experience is completely different than mine. If you stay in Pattaya that’s a whole different story. I personally don’t stay in tourist areas. I’ve had nothing but positive interactions in my time here. Hope things improve for you!

See the same - construction workers, hard laborers, street sweepers, bus fare collectors, security guards, etc - all not easy jobs but these workers are pleasant to others. Yes might be "bad jobs" (low paying) but they at least have a greater degree of pride and respect compared to their counter-parts in the West. What really angers me are the Western commenters in the media (i.e. BKK Post) who look down on these "stupid low educated" Thais.

What always amazes me about Thailand, is how the extremely rich & very poor co-exist next to each other . Especially very modern commercial buildings neighbouring the very poor, a BMW or Mercedes-Benz dealership in what appears undesirable locations etc...it all seems to be in harmony. Never ever do you see this in the West, infact there a generally clear boundaries between such.

Every country has people doing jobs they would prefer not to do IMO , sure you would nt see a woman with a baby strapped to her back in the UK , but she will be paying through the nose for child minding costs or getting a favour done by someone to look after the baby if she is a mother . all the small cogs are part of the larger cogs which make for a cohesive society , Somebody has to do them ! For example I done a 4 year apprenticeship as a bricklayer on the North East coast of England , for too long we had to grind through winters which we called an endurance test , not a job , on price work , so you only got paid for how many bricks you layed , no guaranteed income , as the winds whipping in from Scandanavia and the Arctic cutting you in half , you just got on with it and tried to improve your life and do better for yourself , knowing that you will most likely finish up tossed in a corner full of arthritis on a shit pension , its the way of the world , graft , we re not bank robbers or drug dealers , so we have to graft , that s it

I noticed in Thailand I see lots of signs in front of little shops everywhere saying “ขายยา” meaning “selling medicine”. Again, Thais refuse to use the word “pharmacy”. In Cambodia, they use the word “Pharmacy” or blue cross sign and the stores are bigger and look more like Pharmacy. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqLTi6ajrJ59o5Isi=9zaRQxLy6SZyvshs
