WARNING: To anyone doing this, never do this on the high pressure side. It is under extreme pressure, 1000+ PSI, and will explode off spraying fluid everywhere. And if it hits your exhaust like it did mine, you will have a fire under the hood melting every wiring harness, hose, and piece of plastic. A $300 fix will turn into a $8000 nightmare. If you don't know the difference between the return and the high pressure hose, pay the $300. Just a wiring harness can be over $5,000.

@@waynesanders1406 Correct! When my hose broke, it sprayed power steering fluid all over my exhaust manifold shield. Smoke was everywhere

I unknowingly did it to the high side, surprisingly it held but I could see the fluid pulsating through it, not good!😅

@@brucesamuelson7541 Sometimes you're forced to do things that you would never normally do. When I lived on an island in the Bahamas, finding auto parts was not easy, and if you did find them the price was triple what you'd pay in the United States. I had a high pressure line break, and I was forced to repair it. Needless to say, it held up for 3 years until I moved. The most important thing was using high quality clamps, two of them, you don't want that hose blowing off.

@@electronicsNmore I appreciate the work around. Reminds me of the money I had to spend on a nissan heater hose that was designed to fail on purpose. I couldn't get around the cheap plastic fittings that crumble at around 100k miles. Also the 5K I spent of my auto trans trans after the trans cooler line failed in the radiator.

And this is why I'm really happy to have a vehicle with Electric Power steering. I've done this same repair on my old vehicle and it sucks. It was one of those Vehicles where it was really hard to get to. And even doing it myself was quite expensive.

Very cool, Scott!!! It may be a PITA, but saving $293 to $343 makes it worth the time and trouble. Adding the cost of the hose clamps and sales tax may make the repair cost about $17 to $25, or more depending on the hose length needed, but that's negligible? I guess you were lucky that the hose crimps you had to cut were accessible without having to remove the whole line, but even that would be worth the savings. I see the cautions in comments about the high side, so that's something to consider. However, if all or most of the fluid was drained from the leak, it wouldn't be as bad. Or were they talking about doing this on AC hoses?

Wouldn't it be easier to take it off, replace the hose, then put it back on?

No, not even close. The hose assembly is very long, has multiple connection points to the chassis, and then you would have to undo the flare nuts. Thanks for watching!

@@electronicsNmore The $300 price doesn't actually seem that bad. Is that price for the new part and labor? I'd except it to be more. That being said I'd rather DIY the job for the cost savings and convenience

@@james6794It was around $325 for the hose assembly and labor. Local auto parts stores sell it for around $120 with tax. You can find the return line online for less. Only takes about 1hr to replace the whole line. I think the price is outrageous
