Hi there Paw Paw, as I have said before you are an honest man and I respect you so much for that, I think the worst thing I did to my parents as a 10 year old who thought he knew how things should be done I took my dad's best cast iron skillet and cleaned it till it cleaned it till it shined I even used a sheet of 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper on it I am ashamed to say, lol well my farther never raised his voice or his hand he just looked on struck silent and then set to work replacing some 10 years of seasoning. how I wish I had been just a bit smarter that day as to your house it is YOUR HOUSE and as you live there it is your right to have it your way just keep telling those busy bees to go clean their own home

You just cant beat cast iron! I have several pieces that was handed down from my great grandmother, a few yard sale pieces and some lodge that I bought new over 30 yrs ago. My collection consist of Lodge, Griswold, Wagner and yes a couple pieces that I found at yard sales that came from Taiwan (which is not very good).

Being young and not so experienced, I redid a barn find with a sand blaster. It cleaned it up too well. Probably would have taken a couple of years just to season it for the first use. Luckily I learned better. Now I have a bunch of cast iron that never gets washed and is about as non-stick as you can get it. Same seasoning will work for plain steel woks. Just have to remove the wood handles.

Very interesting. When you fry bell peppers for an omelette, you need garlic and olive oil and black pepper. I use garlic powder if I don't have any garlic. They also have minced fresh garlic mixed with olive oil that comes in a jar. Just another helpful tip for today, for the helpful videos you share with us. I learned a lot from Mama Lucy. She taught me how to make broccoli rabe, which is Italian wild broccoli. You make it with water, olive oil, garlic and salt and pepper. It's a soup,just like making collard greens or kale. Leafy greens are so good. The garlic and olive oil really kicks it up several notches. I like to let it cook all night on low, in my big crock pot my daughter gave me. It smells so good while you're sleeping.

We recently picked up a Dutch oven and a 12 inch skillet at an auction. $20.00 for the pair and both are made in U.S.A. I gave them both the treatment and they are better than new. Beef stew cooked on the 100 year old wood stove (Alabama U.S.A.) was never better.

@DoingItCheap7 жыл бұрын
I just called the Finex plant. They started selling retail in 2014. They are NOT your standard cast iron cookware manufacturer. Theirs is a very high end product. A basic skillet is $200 That is a little rich for my blood. They make a nice product, but it is not like grandma used to use.

My Italian mother-in-law, Lucy used to lightly brown the onions in olive oil, then she would add the cheese, then the eggs. I have to say it was pretty tasty. I loved her bell peppers and eggs too. Have you tried adding cider vinegar to the water that you soak it in? I'm not trying to be an expert, just heard about it many times. There are videos you can compare and find the best one. Now, don't misunderstand me, yours is the best, but just for the heck of it. No one should be without a cast iron frypan, and I have a large, round cast iron pizza cooking pan from Emeril La Gasse, that came with some pots I bought from QVC, and it was a free bonus. I am going to make pizza a la PawPaw with my cast iron pan. Holy Moley. I spent three hours with your videos yesterday and her I am, back again. You are addictive, but I am so glad to have found your videos, PawPaw. Your house is fine, so ignore the ignorant people who just haven't been taught manners and not to be judgmental of others. I learned that when I was four, from the Bambi movie. Thumper's mom told him "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." Or was it Bambi's mom? It was so long ago...I don't know for sure. I also eat the whole egg, the skin on the chicken, and anything else that pleases me. I'm still alive, so it must be okay. I never go to a doctor. If you lay down with dogs, you will come up with fleas. You remind me of my dad, who was first in the Army in WWII and then joined the Merchant Marines where he stayed for ten years and traveled all over the world. He was just like you. I think you are the reincarnation of him. Seriously. He was born in Arkansas, but his father was full-blooded Comanche Indian and was from Texas. His father married an Irish woman, and her parents were from Ireland. My mother's folks were from Scotland. I am a real mutt.

Good cast iron is nearly impossible to find second hand. I don't trust a cast iron skillet who hasn't look like it's been around since the beginning of time, LOL Nothing fries up fish and chicken to that golden perfection by way of an open fire like good OLD cast iron, in my opinion.
