Goooood Mawnin' Al! To make the ladle you might want to start with a cherry wood section from where a branch joined the trunk. So, a branch with a chunk of the main trunk to use to carve/hollow out as the cup. As a shop teacher I had kids every now and then that could see a project in the wood and could work the wood to make what they saw in it. It is amazing how one person can see things that others don't. Keep warm and good luck with your designs for homemade projects.

Thank you for all the great content, keep it up! You're one of my 11 year old son's favorite channels to watch!

My grandmother was an avid wood carver. For deeper ladles she looked for small burls or branches off ‘y’ clefts in trees, that gave her the depth of wood for the bowl of the ladles. To work them finer she used wood files and rasps. Yours look absolutely wonderful.

Gooooood morning Al! Dreamers by themselves don’t go anywhere. You have to have a plan to put your dream into action (be a dreamer AND a doer). Love the way you dream up something (like a water container that will keep water unfrozen longer) and put that idea (dream) into action by turning it into reality. Keep up the good work!

I have to say "Mistah" that I started watching you guys last year... caught one of your videos on a suggested feed that was talking about a "heat wave" in the middle of the coldest part of winter last year. I absolutely had to click... and found out it was "only" minus 4. I was in from that time and I just wanted to say you've become a really good videographer over the last year. I of course watched some of your earlier videos (like ya do..) and fell in love with the family. Just wanted to give you a "good job mistah" from Texas. Kramer! You're too funny. Great video today. Yeah, it's nice to think of longer days when we are going into the coldest days. That bright winter sun is what makes those cold days bearable for me. I have to make sure I get out in the sunshine every day, even if it's just for 5 or 10 minutes or I fall into a SAD funk. So good to see you are making the most of being a fulltime homesteaders and enjoying doing it. Nice work on those spatulas. That could be another income for the homestead. Al, I like the plank to spatula approach! You can't beat a can do attitude. The kitchen in our last house had cherry wood doors. It was a warm comforting place. The kitchen in this house has pale wood doors with pink and grey lines in the grain. No idea what it is, but it lightens a dull room. Baking is a sure fire cure for a cold day, although, I'm a pie man myself!😀. Regards Stephen.

Another great video. Don't you just love working with wood? So relaxing. I have never heard of using mineral oil so I did a quick research most people are using mineral oil mix with beeswax. We've always use vegetable oil and it works just fine for us. They did say as long as it is food grade safe it's okay.
