17:00 You don't need multiple GFCI outlets on a single circuit, much less 2 in the same duplex box. 1 GFCI outlet closest to the panel protects the entire circuit downstream, and non-GFCI outlets are cheaper. Hey Al: You know you don't need to use GFCI receptacles in every outlet for them all to be protected. On a 20 amp circuit, if you put the GFCI receptacle at the outlet closest to the source (breaker), it will protect all of the "downstream" receptacles if/when you put the source conductors on the "line" terminals and all of the "downstream" outlets on the "load" terminals. The receptacle monitors the current between the "Hot" and the "Neutral" conductors. If it sees any difference (on the scale of "milliamps"), anywhere along the circuit, it immediately "opens" (turns off) the circuit. Since you use power tools so commonly on your outlets, it's probably wise to use all 20 amp rated receptacles throughout the circuit. Be aware, however, that you can't "share" a neutral with another circuit (3-wire circuit). A common practice is to share a neutral between two circuits (one from the "red" side of the panel, one from the "black" side of the panel.) If/when you do that with a GFCI breaker, the GFCI will see an "imbalance" between the amps on the hot and neutral whenever power is being used on the other (shared) circuit and it will "open". Even as little as a simple tester on the other circuit. If you feed a GFCI receptacle on part of a 3 wire circuit and protect the downstream outlets using the "load" terminals of the receptacle, that will work properly.

Do you have more than one GFI/GFCI on a circuit? Hard to tell from the video. If so, you might experience some interesting outages. For those who are unfamiliar: Regular outlets can be wired downstream of the protective device. Or you can use a combination on the circuit in the panel.

Looks good, do you have plans for any sort of wind/weather protection for the area? You put many GFCI outlets on one circuit. Most are redundant (and more costly than a regular outlet) as the first protects anything downstream. The ground shouldn't be frozen too far down yet, seems like you could drill through what is frozen then pound the ground rod down and turn the fence on.

I hope Al reads this about the outlets. Here in Minnesota the ground gets very hard in the winter. You just can't dig. The cemeteries have to wait until Spring to bury anyone. It's just the way it is. Our frost line is 39 inches down. We have a water system for the barn that is buried 6 feet down. The ground is just solid. Have a great weekend!

Couple of issues Al. How are you going to open the gate when the snow sluffs off of the roof and turns into a block of ice? Secondly, a 1000-pound cow will not need much effort to pop out those tiny screws on the bolt latch, just my thoughts of something to watch out for.

Do you feel that it's safe for Brutus to be chewing on the wood scrapes? I know he's still a puppy, and he needs to chew on something, but those wood scrapes can turn to splinters quickly and get lodged somewhere in his mouth. That would be an expensive vet bill. What you need now is an open barn like you had on your other homestead for all your farm equipment and vehicle.

Al, dump two large bags of charcoal on the ground. Put a few bricks down to make a loose fire pit. Light the charcoal and cover it with your grill cover or a piece of metal roofing. The ground will be ready to dig up or pound your new ground rod into the next day.

Just take a long drill bit the same size as the ground rod. If you drill down a foot or so, you should be able to pound the rod it the rest of the way.

From the beginning, back at your last farm, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching and learning from all of your building projects. Al watching you work I can’t help but wonder what my dad could have done with all of tools of today that you utilize. The home I grew up in (when we moved in (1951) I was just 9 months old!) he built. Digging out the basement by hand, laying the blocks, on up. He learned the plumbing, electrical and the rest from either friends or reading. Sadly, in 1973, at 60 yrs old, he passed and I still miss him daily. I saw him work through so many projects, I had a wonderful home to grow up in because of the work he did. You are building a home and farm that should last for generations. Really nice gate, I have a suggestion. Continue the fence parallel to the barn and make a trailer loading area at the front of the barn to help loading and unloading your animal trailer.
