Water Pressure!: Thank you Dan, my pump is integrated within the combi boiler. My first (and only!) suspician was the pump, which was confirmed by your excellant video. So I checked it to make sure that it was, as you suggested, not jammed by summer inactivity. After a while of fiddling with the pump and it not starting up and it appeared to be free, my thoughts, confirmed by yours, indicated that a replacement pump was needed. What a pity, but there you are! At which point, my eyes inadvertantly strayed onto the boilers water pressure guage where I noticed the pressure was very low. Doh! I topped the system up and the pump sprung into life. Ach, I should have checked that first! I hope this helps others!

Hi Dan what if water comes spraying out with force when the bleed / impeller screw is opened? is the pump done?

@@PlumbingGy Thanks a million for your speedy reply. Maybe I was confusing with my question. So basically, I usually do something like your video, when there is an airlock, where I only have to loosen the screw a little until it bleeds out the lock. This time as I haven’t used it for several months during summer, I’m guessing might just be a little stuck, but when I open the screw completely the water keeps pouring out. I thought maybe if I tightened the valve immediately above and below the pump it would stop the water for me to remove the screw and turn the impeller a little?

I had one that wouldn't run but was free and, from a check of the winding resistance, still OK from that point of view. What had failed was the capacitor (2uF, the value of the capacitor in the case of the pump you have there is printed on the label). I located a suitable replacement (it has to be a 450vac type often simply called a motor run capacitor) and fitted it (a fairly easy job) and its been back in service for many years. Way cheaper than a new pump.

This is just an initial thought but it could be a faulty motor within the pump, especially if its getting very hot. Too hot to touch? The additional burning sounds backs this up to be honest, Just give the installer a call to return as u suspect the motor, when he gets there make sure its not just air running through the pump and creating an air lock. hope this helps

That's a cool trick with spinning the stator with the screwdriver! Unfortunately, you can't do that with the common Taco pumps. I disagree with your comment to check the pumps every year during the summer. Their is really nothing you can do if they stop on you, so why bother? Have a backup pump handy and get on with it. Also, the comment about the pump needing to be replaced if it doesn't turn under power is false. Many times wire nuts shake loose in the electric box and cause a disconnect (or if the wire breaks ). Check for electricity before making assumptions like that. Thanks again!

Hi carol, This would be an educated guess as I don't know what system your running but 'GENERALLY' a pump located in a hotpree or storage space would be for the hot water or for pumped showers, as for the wiring it depends how it's wired in. I'm hoping it goes to a separate spurr? If so you can just isolate it by removing a fuse, if not I'm afraid you will have to find out the correct circuit and isolate before working on it. No need to turn water off however I would turn off the heating best practice, as for the led it will depend on the set up I'm afraid the best way is to check to see if u have power there first and that the motor in any pump is working 👍🏻

@@PlumbingGy Thanks for the quick reply. I fear the pump may need replacing but will do the check in your video before I think about a plumber.

@@PlumbingGy Dan you are a star. That worked a treat. Pump is working again. Thanks for saving me the cost of a plumber which would have been a challenge in lockdown.
