dealership told my customer his ecm was bad because his cluster stopped working. they wanted $1,200 to fix it. i found your video & replaced the steper motors like you did. thanks bud, you saved my customer $1,100. i told him if he didn't mind me experimenting & it works, I'll do it for $100. we are both happy.

Ordered the suggested motors, installed, etc, everything worked flawlessly. Awesome walk-through down to the detail. The fork to remove and tape to keep it's calibration suggestion was 5*. (I used a knife under the fork to prevent dents by fork). Turned possibly $400+ into $30. Keep up the good work, guy!

Thank you so very much for making this video. I used a different video to assist with my taking off the dash trim and removing the instrument cluster, and then used this video to assist with replacing 4 stepper motors in a 2004 Impala. I spent 17 bucks on Amazon for the stepper motor / LED light kit, and 11 bucks on a quality solder sucker tool. A few hours later everything was put back together tight and all my gauges are working like they should. Without your help, my Impala would still be doing 110 mph while parked (broken spedometer / stepper motor). You are the best!

Neither of my vehicles have the type cluster you repaired in this video but I watched anyway because I was impressed with the conduct. I do have a 1988 chevy van G20 which has now a very noisy/erratic speedometer (especially in cold weather). Thinking it was lack of cable lube I had that service done (mechanic charged me $100 to lube the cable) but still have the same snapping scrapping sound with a bouncing needle. Checked back with the mechanic doing the lube and he said the problem was the gear assembly in the gauge itself. I shiver to think what he would charge for that service. Can you give me some insight
@georgeschmunk65377 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the most helpful information. The only criticism I have is watching you do the repairs on top of your tool box with not nearly enough room.

Great video! Changed all six stepper motors in my 04 Trailblazer. Your video is perfect. I am not a GM man but this is a well engineered vehicle. The only problem I have found is that some of the components are very low quality, i.e. the circuit boards in the instrument cluster, radio, climate control, etc. Stepper Motors and Light Bulbs should be on push pins rather that soldered in. Keep up the good work!

U vid on replacing stepper motors very informative. My gas gage worked soon as I started motor. After 5 mins it shut down and fuel light came on. After 5 mins shut off again. Keeps doing this like as soon as it got warm it shuts down. I know I’m the fuel pump it has the prongs attached to the float. I figure it can’t be the float cause it either works or it don’t correct? I just don’t want to drop gas tank if it is in fact stepper motor. Fuel pump is 179.oo. How do I test wheather it’s the reostat in float or if it’s the stepper motor in dash. Seems opening up dash would be easier and first place to start? Please give me ur opinion. I’m very familiar w electronics on vehicle’s. Thank you again your vids are good

Thanks for your great video. I have suspected bad stepper motors but was not sure. I've had the inst panel go dark & found a cracked trace on the circuit board where the gnd wire connects. Over time, the vibration of the cable harness transfers through the connector, and directly to the board connections. There should have been something to dampen the vibration, otherwise it's a failure point for sure. I tried your link for the stepper motor but found light bulbs instead. I'll search later. If you can, any recommendation will be appreciated. Outstanding video !!
