'No Answer' is the second single taken from "The Lost Songs: 1978-1981", set for release on 28 August 2020 via Silver Lining Music. Available to pre-order at: smarturl.it/DokkenTheLostSongs
It wasn’t always multi-platinum sales and stadium gigs for Dokken. There was a first-phase and there were early days, and it is those bold first steps to stardom which are celebrated comprehensively on Dokken’s The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 album, out on August 28th 2020 through Silver Lining Music.
Featuring spectacular sleeve art by renowned US artist Tokyo Hiro (Motörhead, Motley Crüe), The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 show the crackle and craft of a hungry young Don Dokken as he embarked upon a journey which started in Southern California and Northern Germany. It is a trek which is testimony to the sheer endeavor and perseverance Don Dokken showed in those few years between 1978 and 1981, starting from when he spent time at a guitar store called Drake’s Music, owned by Drake Levin in Manhattan Beach, California.
A fair selection of the treasure on The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 are from these early European days. “Felony” carries a thuggish fuzz-coated riff think early Van Halen in really greasy embroidered denims while “Day After Day” showed that Don could pen a radio-slaying ballad.
The writing and creation of The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 are further tribute to enduring early days of struggle in both Germany and LA., Don would return to LA for a spell after those brief European gigs, and he worked with Croucier on material, including perhaps the truest view of Dokken’s then-future “Hit and Run”, which incredibly did not end up on the eventual Breaking The Chains release. From the sunbaked SoCal hook of “Step Into The Light” to the furious, fledgling, late-Sunset Strip sound of “Back In The Streets,” The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 shows Don in his unfettered early days of balls-out attitude, qualities doubtless forged in the sheer nature of the adventures undertaken in writing, recording and deciding Europe was the place to keep cutting his teeth.
The Lost Songs: 1979-1981 not only shares that magic with the fans, it gives them the final, vital and undeniably missing (until now) early album in the Dokken collection.
Musicians who appear on The Lost Songs: 1978-1981
Don Dokken - vocals, guitar
Jon Levin - guitar
BJ Zampa - drums
Juan Croucier - bass
Greg Leon - guitar
Gary Holland - drums
Mick Brown - drums
George Lynch -guitar
Rustee Allen - bass

Yes, Dokken music turned up loud in the car was awesome! They were the main band that got me wanting to pick up the guitar in the first place. Hearing them play live compared to the studio albums is night and day. A band that really knows how to play their instruments! 1995 live was great as well! So many nice live KZbin of them playing. I remember before this the CDs were all we had or VHS or DVD. I was a cd guy. I couldn't downgrade to an mp3. It just doesn't sound the same. I wish they would bring back the cd shops again. Put the entire catalog of all those bands back from the 60s 70s 80s on up like they used to do. Not just what they want you to buy. I could just imagine having an app listen to the music your listening to on the radio and if you like it click on something and it adds to your wish list of bands you want to buy their cd. Then you go and find them on Amazon cart list or go to a CD store and hope that they have it.

Haji Kamikazi ESP Guitars I have found a lot of the older CD’s at Walmart in the bargain bin. I’m also very big on having CD’s and have a pretty good sized collection. I have all the Dokken CD’s but the last one I bought (I can’t remember the name of it) was really bad. Don couldn’t even hit a lot of the notes on the songs. I know exactly what you mean about how different they are in concert and on the CD’s. The last time they came to my town, I had tickets to go see them but Don and George Lynch had their falling out right before the concert and it was canceled. I was really upset. I’m glad you were able to get into playing guitar. George Lynch is one of the best! Thank you for your reply and have a great day 🤘

The message fits the moment. Hang tough! I learned a few things about Dream Warriors recently . George crashing through the wall. That smile from Patricia Arquette and the quick little smile back from Lynch.. I'd suspected something was up at that moment, Could not quite put a pin on it. Then I looked into it about a month ago. That video captured and captivated the mid -late 80's and much the entire X Generation! ; ) One of the top vids ever for me. Fun times : )

I find it weird that no one seems to think “They’re releasing one or two originals to tide us over while we wait for the album”, why is everyone making the assumption that this is a rerecord of an old song? Or that the album will be re-recorded old songs?
@matthewg666
@matthewg666 4 жыл бұрын
@@spartansquid5931 Because the new album is a collection of old demos that Don found while cleaning out his storage unit. In an interview, he said that he wanted to use as much of the original demos possible. Some were incomplete, though. So, some re-recording and vocals would be added. Beyond that, it was vague. Judging by the track list, my guess would be that this will be the first official release of Back In The Streets with 5 additional tracks. Of those, Broken Heart was the b-side of Don's first single. Juan Croucier had a usable recording of Hit And Run. That leaves 3 tracks that should have any re-recording done on them. Should. I just personally question whether this track really dates back to 78-81. Even with re-recording, Step Into The Light at least sounds like what Don was writing back then. No Answer doesn't.

Is our time almost over? Watchin' the clock runnin' down We gotta take a stand Or the're gonna take us down We gotta take a stand Or they're gonna take us down Take us down All of the questions They need an answer, no reply All of the whispers so we don't hear them But we still hear I'm standing on the abyss Lookin' down I'm watchin' the world Spinnin' round We gotta take a stand Or they're gonna take us down We gotta take a stand Or they're gonna take us down Take us down Take us down

So what is the story behind this track? Is it un-released material re-worked? I definitely hear Jon Levin's playing here. I like the 80's video game look. My band used a computer wire style graphic for the song Monster Truck by Powell Trio. It is the icon used. Cool little song.

There’s about 115 people here who think that if something is different from what their taste wants it to be it’s automatically bad. This is a pretty good song, a lot of really cool moments and some great riffs. Just because you don’t dig the singing or think some lyrics aren’t lined up or delivered well with the song, doesn’t make it bad. Get over yourself, with taste as shit as yours you probably can’t tell the difference between pizza and a comatose child.

@@hannahbanana3511 I don't expect much from the tracks as a result. 30 or 40 year old abandoned demos without Don's old vocal abilities and two meh lead tracks, which they likely thought the best? I'm still a buyer as a fan and collector of course.

Dokken were one of those "Hair" metal bands that actually played metal. Not a fan of the pop-rock MTV mutants that came after (Poison, I'm looking at you!) but each to their own, no hate, all in good humour.

All these tracks are from the 70’s dibshit, the entirety of Breaking the Chains and all the content found in Back in the Streets were written before George ever joined the band.

Def. Not Lynch on this one but awesome playing anyway. This sounds like a re record and it is old and stale. His voice is horrible and done and he should be retired. Dokken was awesome for the time but there is a reason it was time for Lynch to go. Lynch Mob holds up way better to the times than this does .
@spartansquid5931
@spartansquid5931 4 жыл бұрын
You have some really weird standards of horrible. By your standard Lynch’s guitar playing is horrible and stale because he can’t play like how he used to. Don still has a great lower register and I personally think he sounds fine here.

jack couchman To think you would add lol to your comment after saying something so dumb... why don’t you go back to George’s Nu Metal albums and various failed side projects, or the Shadowlife album mostly written by George, since he’s apparently the one behind the genius, and not Don, who’s been pumping out consistently amazing non-lynch albums since the late 90’s.
