10 years ago I started with a very basic soundbar, but over the years I wanted a better sound. Currently, my sound system consists of 6 SVS Ultra Bookshelf speakers (2 for the mains, 2 for the side channels, and 2 for the rears), an SVS Ultra Center speaker, 4 SVS Prime Elevation speakers ceiling mounted for Dolby Atmos and 2 SVS SB-3000 Subwoofers. The system is powered by a Parasound Halo A52+ 5 channel amplifier and a Yamaha Aventage RX-A8A 11 channel AVR with dual AC Infinity AIRCOM T9's keeping them cool, and all are connected to a Panamax M5400-PM Power Conditioner. The output power of this Living Room home theater system is 2,800 watts R.M.S.

Well done for your explanation. Not sure I'd agree that a soundbar is the best for 'most' people, but for many perhaps.
@YuriBrus
@YuriBrus 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for your feedback, @networkn! Indeed, audio preferences and needs can vary widely among individuals. Soundbars do have their advantages, especially in terms of simplicity and space-saving, but it's always good to weigh different options based on individual needs. Thanks for sharing your perspective!

I had a Samsung Q990B, which sounded fantastic, but thw wireless speakers kept disconnecting and being a major pain, so I got it fixed under warranty and traded it in for a Yamaha AVR with Wharfedale DX2 5.1 which was also great, although mediocre with music. So I upgraded to Spektor 6, Spektor 1, and Vokal with sub, which was fabulous. Then I added the Wharfedale sub for 5.2. Because, why not? Within a week, I was adding Eltax atmos upfiring speakers. And the difference was night and day between the Samsung and the 5.2.2 Frankenstein set up I now have. What I'm saying here is that once you start building your own, it gets addictive, and costly. But worth it. I don't think I could go back to a soundbar now, and certainly wouldn't go back to TV speakers. And now you've mentioned 4K Blu Ray players, I'm seriously considering one, because I'm too lazy to keep changing discs in my PS5, and because I'm not sure how it'd handle movies in full Atmos. You're a bad influence, but I like it! ;)

Hi Yuri, thanks for a great overview. I'm considering upgrading my 5.1 to Atmos and your video was full of information. Our wives might be related because when I tell her we need an upgrade she's going to think I'm nuts. I also thought you did a terrific job on the sound mix and film shots. Really professionally done. Props!

It's always exciting to explore new audio experiences, even if it might seem a bit "nuts" to our significant others at first. 😄 I totally understand the struggle! If you have any further questions as you consider upgrading to Atmos, feel free to reach out. Have a great day, and best regards, Yuri

@@YuriBrus Have you sampled if there's much improvement for ceiling speakers v upfiring speakers?
@YuriBrus
@YuriBrus 6 ай бұрын
@@mikekritzman3960 Yes, I have. Currently, I am using an up-firing soundbar system from Samsung, the HW-Q950A. In my room, the ceilings are flat, smooth, and about 245 cm high. I find that the up-firing effects sound more natural and in harmony with the rest of the speakers, whereas the ceiling-mounted speakers that I used previously could draw too much attention to themselves. It definitely depends on the room, as I have listened to other Atmos systems in different rooms where this is not an issue.

I have a Sonos Arc with Sonos One SL's for rears connected to my LG 65" CX. Sounds amazing but I do find that the bass can sound a bit flappy sometimes, which I think a dedicated Sonos Sub would help with. I just can't justify £700 for a Sub at this point. I hope Sonos bring out a smaller less expensive version of the Sub as I think there is a market for that?
@YuriBrus
@YuriBrus 2 жыл бұрын
Hello ern0504 and thanks for your input. I love your setup, the ARC is still a top-tier soundbar. Adding the Sonos SUB will definitely make a difference, but I agree that £700 is a bit steep. I guess you're in the UK, have you checked 'pricerunner.com'? Sometimes you can find a good deal there, and I believe that the GEN 3 SUB occasionally dips under £600. Anyway, I wish you a great day and best regards Yuri

I have à question, you tell us that their is 3way to have hight channels, on the top, with the top reflection of the sound and with a bar, but you have two side hight channel on the left and right center pointing you directly, is it the 4 way of doing it or these are not the hight channel?
@YuriBrus
@YuriBrus 3 ай бұрын
Great observation, @suikasuika4157! The side height channels you mentioned are indeed part of the Dolby Atmos setup, typically referred to as 'height' channels. These side height channels you noticed add to the immersive experience by directing sound downwards the listener from the left and right sides. Thanks for bringing this up!

The one we see on the teufel set, are they side usage too? Because I see poeple putting them in top of the tower sound but I was thinking about using them as side hight channel like in your theater
@YuriBrus
@YuriBrus 2 ай бұрын
@suikasuika4157 If you are referring to the "Teufel Reflect" speakers, then yes, those will work very well as downfiring atmos speakers. They even have a switch at the back to select the desired configuration.

My setup goes Firestick to TV with HDMI and TV to Dolby Atmos sound bar via optical cable; and I don't think my soundbar is delivering Dolby Atmos like that. It's the latest Firestick which say it supports Dolby Atmos, and the soundbar is a well rated new Dolby Atmos, the TV is new. Do I need to instead connect the Firestick HDMI directly to the soundbar, and then use a second HDMI cable to link the soundbar to the TV, and remove the optical link?
@YuriBrus
@YuriBrus 6 ай бұрын
Yeah, that would work. Or leave the firestick plugged in the TV and replace the optical cable with an HDMI cable. Make sure to use the eARC or ARC port on the TV and active Atmos in the TV sound settings.
@sdemills
@sdemills 6 ай бұрын
@@YuriBrus Thanks for the tip. I went Firestick HDMI to soundbar, then soundbar HDMI to TV, then switch soundbar to HDMI input instead of Optical - and now the Firestick status reports full Dolby Atmos. Just need to find time to watch TV now and see how the sound compares to before. :)

@@YuriBrus The setup I had proposed and checked, which is Firestick -> Soundbar -> TV all HDMI does work I'm pleased to say - the Firestick diagnostics shows full Dolby Atmos is now being used. However, I am now going to give your suggestion a try : Firestick -> TV -> Soundbar because with my current new setup the volume controls on the Firestick no longer change the volume on the Soundbar. I believe the FS volume control is sending by IR to the TV and the current setup doesn't relay that info to the Soundbar, whereas the previous Optical link from TV -> Soundbar did work. So I'm hoping that by going HDMI from TV to Soundbar and ensuring that the eARC option is turned on in the TV, then the FS volume control will once again work on the Soundbar. I will report back on whether or not that fixes the volume control issue, since that might prove useful intel to other folks too.

I have a 5.1 receiver. Anyone know do they make a Dolby atmos center speaker ( with upfiring speakers) that can be connected directly to a receiver? Thanks
@YuriBrus
@YuriBrus 8 ай бұрын
Hey @JerryMacHomes! Absolutely, there are plenty of Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers with upfiring capabilities, often designed as left and right front channel speakers. However, it's crucial to note that your AV Receiver needs to support Dolby Atmos and have dedicated speaker channels to drive the upfiring section of these Atmos-enabled speakers for the immersive experience. Make sure to check compatibility for optimal performance. Happy exploring!
