the worst part for me was to see so many of them point to the black doll when asked which one was bad but they also pointed to that same black doll when asked which one looks like you....just to imagine what these children think of themselves due to the color of their skin is completely heartbreaking

The fact that the girl at the end felt offended by the fact that she was black was especially heartbreaking for me. That shows that she feels as though it is an insult to be called black, and therefor to be black is wrong. Meaning she feels inferior because of it. It's sad that the effect of racism has even touched our children. What is this world that we are living in?
@blackygunzz
@blackygunzz 6 жыл бұрын
@Arvind Emmanuel: i totally agree with you. and what makes it so bad is that the original "Human" has taken on the ways of "Mankind." most say ( and think ) well, same thing. mankind is just a way to say all humans on earth making up mankind as one but no. I beg to differ. Mankind is close to the human in likeness. He has two arms, two legs, and a head ( Arm, Leg, Leg, Arm, Head, acronym: ALLAH ) but he ( mankind ) lacks the property of "Hue" and you can't just give yourself an attribute that you don't possess. this is one of 3 of the most hidden secrets to the world that's right in our faces. the Human is the only one that can produce multicolored races. This is not just by chance. God did this so that we could live forever and so could he through us. Mankind does not have this ability. Even when God said, "let there be light," it came from within triple blackness, void, nothing. as the tree that bares fruit is within the seed beneath the darkness of earth. it shall bring an abundance of life. that's the difference between human and mankind.

I am personally offended when someone calls me black. To me it is like someone calling me colored, which is much more offensive. I am not a color, I am a human being. I had met people who’s skin tone resembles purple, grey, silver, orange, and I don’t consider them a “color”. I prefer to be referred to as African American, not colored, not black, nothing else.

Not shooting any shade, but does anyone else feel that this test is not really a good one? Why not instead say that there are dolls for them to play with and then leave the room and see which one they play with. Then ask them why? I don't know I feel there is a better way....

If you read the info at the beginning, they are recreating a test done many years ago, and the children in the vid were as honest as the ones in the original. It’s a sad reality, however, it’s a well done test to see how these children perceive these dolls, based on today’s racial issues. The children are not forced to pick only one doll, they could have said “neither” or “both”, but being small they answered in a way that was genuine. Even their reactions towards the end is important. It shows us how damaging a child’s perception of race can be towards themselves or others.

"This one is looking at me funny" seriously comes from repeated bullying. I'm the only asian in my neighbourhood and i would get racial slurs and stares all the time. How do you know that its all because of prejudice these where African Americans so if anything they probably live around mostly white people and therefore most of their friends are going to be white. And the question wasn't which one's skin colour do you not like/think is ugly. It was which one do you relate with more and kids aren't going to be thinking logically lets be real if most of their friends are white then they'll obviously say the white doll. There where also various things like the kid who seemed confident with his answers at first but changed his answers half way through doesn't that show that by asking these questions your just making them more uncomfortable or the whole thing is fake. The whole set up is cruel and biased.

Funny thing is, half of them weren't even black. Like that white Arab kid who chose the black doll over the white doll when asked which doll looks like him, even though he looks more like the white doll. But that's what black culture does, they worship lighter skin and then convince their kids and half breeds to hate their skin so they can all worship whites together.

I remember being a kid and getting my first black barbie. I was so excited because I had a black friend from school and I finally had a doll that reminded me of her. I always liked pretending my dolls were people in my life. I was so excited to show my friend and I told her the doll reminded me of her. Her mom was offended by me saying that. I didn't understand why as a kid. I mean, I was a little redheaded kid and didn't even have a redheaded barbie, so the standard blonde one was always "myself". Looking back now I guess she assumed I meant "black people all look alike" i don't know...She was my favorite barbie though and I always thought she was the prettiest barbie I owned. She looked different from all my other barbies and it made her unique in my eyes. I also loved my friend. I was always an outcast in school and was bullied for how I looked. She never bullied me and she liked me for me. Her and I could rely on each other and would comfort each other when the other kids were being mean. My family moved away and never saw her again. For years I had wished to go back because even at my new school kids would bully me. I no longer had that person who would comfort. I was heartbroken and still miss her dearly. I hope she's doing well and I hope things went better for her after I left.

I understand your point, but it’s not about whether the dolls are bad. It’s about IF one of the dolls is bad then which one is more likely to be. Also, if you use “better” the meaning gets twisted while “good” and “bad” are completely universal.

The boy in the blue sweater was so gentle with his doll. I wanted to just hold him watching that shame wash over his face. Watching them have to answer almost felt cruel. But I know it’s more nuanced than that. And the researchers really do exemplify how generationally, globally embedded racism and antiblackness are. Seeing this study done over the decades, on and on since the 50s is hard when the results are this consistent. We should be paying better attention to this and responding better to this on a systemic level.

I’m a white person, and seeing this just breaks my heart. These children look around the ages of 6-10 and hate themselves for their skin color.. this made me cry physically. We need to come together and love each other. We should only hate people for their bad traits (things they can help), we should never hate someone else for their skin color or race! I have no idea what it’s like growing up other than growing up white, which is already hard without racism and stuff. But I can’t imagine how hard it must be growing up another race, and knowing that they have it so hard physically and mentally breaks me. We all need to agree to love and accept each other.

Watching this brought me to tears. The way their demeanor shifts to visible shame, pain and sadness once they’re asked to identify the doll that looks like them, and identify the “bad” doll just shatters my heart. These sweet babies have internalized such horrible ideas about themselves, no child should ever feel like this about who they are, especially in regards to race. I can’t believe this kind of hate is still something that adults are projecting onto our children. We need to be better. We need to do better. They’re depending on us.

But wait a minute, asking " which one is ugly " or " which one is good " , is literally forcing childs to define one of the 2 dolls as ugly , bad etc etc An adult could say " none of them are like that, I like them both " A kid so young won t question the original question which is in fact an affirmation in disguise. They have to chose something bad either way that's so messed up, I m pretty sure none of those kids would even consider one doll being ugly to begin with . That s messed up big time

When I was younger I had to do this experiment, and looking back it’s slightly flawed. Word Choice is so important for this. When you’re a kid and you’re only given a select number of choices, you think those are the ONLY choices you can choose from. So when they ask which one is good and which one is bad, kids aren’t gonna say neither or both because they’re not given those options. When I did the experiment I was around 8. I vividly remember thinking none of the dolls are good or bad, and that they’re just dolls. But again when you’re a kid you feel like I can only choose option a or option b. Don’t get me wrong…can kids be influenced by racist ideologies surrounding them? Of course. I just believed this experiment like any other experiment is slightly flawed

These are my exact thoughts! I think this experiment is weird. These are dolls, inanimate objects. How can they be bad or good? Maybe, if kids were given a third option, they would have said "neither". By the way, am I the only one to wonder whether the answers have something to do with average appearance in the place where you live in? I read somewhere that people who visually stand out from the crowd (have uncommon features, like different skin or hair colour) may seem prettier. As a white person, I have always found people of other races, especially tan or black girls, beautiful.

My impression is that these children are responding, not what they think, but what they think the adult expects of them. You can see it in how they hesitate about certain responses, and in their expressions. If I am right, it is heartbreaking that almost all of those children are convinced that adults expect those answers from them.

If one race is "disgusting" so is every other race. Nobody's superior in any aspect related to race/skin color. The point is that skin color shouldn't determine ANYTHING. Nobody should call you ugly just because you're black. Nobody should call you racist just because your race had conflict back in time. Nobody should judge you based on your skin color. We're all fucking human in the end.

I actually always wonder if this is also because kids are taught at a young age that LIGHT/white is usually associated with angels, happy, and good things while DARK/Black is associated with bad guys, evil and scary thing. We are taught to associate colors with a specific feeling (blue is serene, yellow is cheerful, etc). I just wonder if this is also an underlying reason as to why non-white children also think White is the good doll and Black is the bad doll.

‘HiTLeR’... I don’t think the child has a view of Eugenics and genetic superiority/inferiority racial narratives... I think the child likes blue eyes or is subject to cultural, social preferences. People tend to be attracted to demographics they grow up with. They are in Italy.

Don't hate me please, I'm just trying to say the lighter colour seems more beautiful because the eyes were blue, lips were red but the darker one was actually completely dark and seems monotonous. I personally love dark skin, I'm not white either. If whitr is beautiful then why albino people who are actually really whit head to toe don't seem beautiful to us? It's because there's not much difference in colour. The dark skin tone with lighter hair looks so attractive also a dark person with green eyes will look so beautiful.
