Dude, thanks for posting this up. I used to love this show as a 5-6 year old even though Jack Palance scared the shit out of me. Strangely, I only just now thought of hitting up KZbin for random old Palance-era Ripleys segments, and one of the few segments I actually remember (conceptually if not exactly) was the 'Santa Claus on the $3 bill' segment....and blow me down, here it is; first one I've watched, and first time I've seen this show in over 35 years.

He really embodied the suspense of this show. I used to watch as pre-teen/teen in the 80s in my native Brazil and was fascinated by it. Palance was really captivating, when he spoke I couldn't blink.

Even when discussing history, Jack Palance sounds sinister - just listen to the way he says "Dollah Bell"!

Jack Palance got "Ripley's Believe It or Not", Robert Stack got "America's Most Wanted"... I suspect they may have though these were a step down in their careers, but these throwaway shows really did bring these legends to a new generation! I grew up watching eagerly awaiting "Ripley's" every week and was captivated by Jack Palance! As I grew older I was made a point of checking out his film work... "Sudden Fear"and his remarkable turn as Dracula later on!

Robert Stack got UNSOLVED MYSTERIES, not America's Most Wanted. Robert Stack hosted UNSOLVED MYSTERIES. John Walsh, who isn't an actor, hosted America's Most Wanted.

I remember this episode as a 6 year old kid, I loved how Palance delivered his lines in this show, it was factual but also subjective as he was stating facts while seeming like he was asking you a question; a question of, do you believe it, or not?

Me to. I saw this episode when i was 5 years old and always remember the 3 dollar bill.

Fun fact: Abraham Lincoln is the only person who is on both sides of a US dollar bill - his face on the front, and the statue of the Lincoln Memorial on the back. I miss Jack Palance. He was the only Ripley's host who really made the stories come alive.

Palance was a man’s man. That man didn’t just play tough, he could kick the shit out of you. He was a professional boxer who won 12 fights.

Watch "Requiem For a Heavyweight", a 1956 movie written by and directed by Rod Sterling of "Twighlight Zone" fame. Palance plays a fighter kinda like "Rocky" today. Only 1956 version. IMHO, this was Palance's best drama role. City Slickers was his best comedic role.

I believe when this episode was aired - in the 70s and 80s-, people of my country were more used to seing usd 100 bills than in the US itself. And that was mainly for own saving purposes. We still the first holders of US dollar bills per capita in the World outside its emitioner country.

Now when someone tells you it's as fake as a 3 dollar bill, you can laugh at them and tell them there was a three dollar bill. Better yet, make a bar bet about it.
@paulaharrisbaca48512 жыл бұрын
Actually, my mom used to say "as queer as a three dollar bill" or was it "a four dollar bill"...but that isn't pc...or is it? Some people like to use it as some sort of n-word for the alphabet people, a word only they can use.

As a kid, I was always slightly scared watching Ripley's because of Jack Palance. A perfectly innocuous subject matter suddenly becomes a little frightening with his sinister demeanor.

In Spanish the classic sentence translate is *"Although you ..... don't believe it"* . (Aunque usted ... no lo crea). Leterally the sentence "Believe or not" should be *Créalo ó no* . Actually the man who dis this traslation lives in the lovely town of Santiago Chile, very far from the US, but he remember very well early '80s TV show by night in his country. Believe it ... or not.
