Dollar Store Drab to Table Top Fab 2: Bronze Statue

It's clear my most well received video was the first Dollar Store conversion. And I always say, give the people what they want. So I did another video with a couple different toys this time. To change things up, I try painting them as bronze statues. Not bad for a first attempt eh?

I’ve been thinking about making a Superman bronze statue as a kind of easter egg in a post-apocalyptic fantasy setting. I’ve painted tarnished bronze for 40K statues using a base coat of black, covered with dark green and dry brushed with bronze
@c.r.johnson7725
@c.r.johnson7725 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'd like to see the other figure. Turned out great. When I do bronze statues I do it a little differently. I base coat with the metallic, then a semi-thin mix of turquoise and lime green (70/30) pretty heavy to cover most of the base, then a dry brush of metallic again to hit those highlights. Especially those places people might be frequently touching them. When I apply the mix I do it from the top down so it pools in places as water would if it were rained on for years. Then I do the strong tone to grime it up. Yours turned out great, but give that a try if you get a chance. Mine always turn out really good and I'm a way lazier and less talented crafter than you.

Personally, I don't skimp when it comes to paint... I'm a Citadel guy, all day. At least when it comes to brush-paints... I'll get the cheapest rattle-cans I can get my hands on for the undercoats, but for stuff like metallics? Yeah, I stick with Citadel... Balthazar Gold for a nice bronze like the one you're doing for this statue, with Nihilakh Oxide for the weathering and shaded with Druchii Violet for that good antiqued-bronze look. And of COURSE I'd like to see a video on the conversion of the dollar-store Barbie toy! Yes, please.

I'd like to see the barbie one. For bronze and copper, the patina being heavier tends to be a better option than tarnished for a statue. For a patina, if you find the right color, thin it down to close to a wash level and then add a few drops of rubbing alcohol to the paint and mix it in, the end result tends to look a lot more like a patina.

Around Christmas time, Michael's sells a large pack of winter flocked pine trees of various sizes. Following an older BMC video I stripped the white flock from the trees and reflocked them with a green. Then, I based them in groups. Unfortunately, I don't have the flocking on video, but one of my first ever videos was basing the trees.

So I’m into Warhammer 40K and there’s this big boy called Dreadknight or “baby carrier” in the Warhammer community. But the model is too..bare...I kinda wanna add on parts where I can build up on and make it look more of an armored Knight sentry instead of an exo-skeleton. Any suggestion on what I could use? I’ve played around with Green Stuff but idk if my sculpting game is that strong.
@brokenterrain
@brokenterrain 3 жыл бұрын
So this being the first time I've ever seen the model, I see why they call it baby carrier. The pilot looks like a little baby hanging from their parents chest. I think the biggest change you could try is to remove him from the front and have just his head and maybe shoulders sticking out from the top. This would make it look more like he's wearing the suit. If that's to drastic, some thin sturdy card cut into panels to from a cockpit of sorts. Use the small half circle gems as rivets. Dress the panels up with bits and pieces from other models. As you do this, make up in your head what these pieces do. This piece is a heat sensor. This one a targeting device. This tube is for coolant. This will add a bit of purpose to your placement of bits and give the kitbash a grounding in some "realism". I'm still fairly amateur myself so take all this advice with a grain of salt. Once finished, I'd love to see what you come up with. Hit me up on Instagram.
