The scary thing is people cant think of this on their own. Eating cheap is not as hard as people make it out to be. these are the most basic of common sense recipes but a society raised on fast food has no clue how to actually budget and cook food properly.

This is an awesome channel. Most Americans are so ridiculously spoiled, and so few have ANY idea what it's like to really struggle. Your channel is a fantastic contribution to those who are struggling - if only temporarily. When I was in college in the '80s it took everything I could manage just to get by. It was all on me. After borrowing some money to buy something I needed for my job I was left broke and in debt. So I developed a diet that kept me going for the least money. There was no internet; there were no Dollar Trees or Dollar Generals or anything like that. So I lowered my expectations and purchased ramen noodles on sale (who didn't, right?). I would use coupons to purchase canned tuna. I bought LOTS of potted meat. I could get 10 cans of potted meat for $1. I large loaf of Sunflower white bread was 89 cents. Each can of potted meat would make two sandwiches. That's TWENTY sandwiches for about $2. Potted meat isn't filet mignon, but it's tasty and filling. Then I filled my fiber and vitamin needs with canned veggies on sale. The most important was canned spinach! I learned to prepare it in several ways, sometimes adding an egg and butter to take it up several notches! Once a week I would treat myself to a Chinese buffet in town for $5. I made it through and learned lessons that serve me well 35 years later!

You can even make ghetto ramen with bullion cubes or a bag of spice mix for soups, and cheap pasta. You only need to find the right bag of spice-mix for soups, and you have instant ramen which takes 5-10 minutes to cook. And you have the advantage of adding some shredded vegetables or a boiled egg or a sausage or something, to make it into a more filling meal. Add a spoon or two of tomato sauce from a jar after boiling the pasta in just enough water to cover it, then cook it on low heat for a few minutes (which are included in the time used to cook the pasta) for some of the liquid to turn into a sauce, and you have instant noodles which taste like a $20 meal from a cheap restaurant. There are different types of pasta, so you could get the variety you like, and you only need to stir slowly while the pasta boils, and add the spice mix after it's done cooking or the bullion cubes (which you sliced thin) before you start cooking (or you can get some water and a cup and mix the sliced bullion cube with the water until it turns into a sauce, using more water to get the leftovers from the cup into the pan). It's similar to instant noodles, but takes a few minutes and 3 different actions to do (the bullion cubes or spices mix, the cleaning and shredding/cutting of things you're adding in with the pasta, and the pouring of the mix into a bowl or putting the cutting board on the table and the pan on the table to eat from, which is how I eat scrambled eggs), and that opens up the possibility of adding something else to the pot, or cooking something else differently. For example, sliced or fries-shaped or diced salami can be fried in a pan separately, then the pasta can be made in the pan without the fried salami (without cleaning the pan before adding the pasta and water), then you add the salami fries/slices/dices on top of the pasta or next to it, and you've got a restaurant-like dish in 15 minutes, 10-15 more minutes than instant noodles (including the boiling of the water and letting it rest, since a large plate with the pasta spread out can help it cool faster), but much cheaper (in some cases, 1/5 of the price). And it might even be cheaper to make your own fresh noodles (with water, cheap flour, and no yeast), for some variety and a slightly cheaper price (compared to the store-bought pasta). You can even used mashed boiled rice (optionally with some cheap wheat flour) to make homemade dashi or dashi rolls, to impress someone. Heck, if you know someone who can afford to spend more on food, you could try to make cheap meals and offer them to buy some ingredient which is out of your budged so you both can eat a nicer meal, and so you get a nicer-tasting meal or some meat or other ingredient, and that person gets to eat a tasty meal without having to drive somewhere or have it delivered, and maybe even cheaper than there. Heck, with such a deal, you could even use the opportunity to try to learn cooking in general, and set up a group for cooking and eating together, in which you get help cooking and get some of the more expensive ingredients bought by others, and you do the cooking. Or you could simply cook food for a week (assuming you have a fridge), and then announce people that you have 5 plates/bowls of food which cost you a certain amount to make (including your labour and fuel), and you're exchanging them for that money to your friends (to avoid having to pay taxes for cooking the meal you eat). Heck, if you have a tripod for the phone, you can use it to record yourself cooking (you can mute the whole video to remove swearing and other speaking), publish the videos in which to show the things you used, and use that as an online business which is losing money, to have the food you eat deducted from your taxes. If you work a job which gets you money, or you sell something (goods or services) legally, then you can deduct the costs of the foods you make in the video from the taxes, leaving you with less money to pay in taxes. If you can use that cooking youtube channel to make money, like thorough sponsorships (companies gift you products to test, or promoting their products in your videos) or you use fund-raisers to get money for certain things, then you can do the same thing to reduce the income tax from those.

It's not that low income have to rely on these disgusting foods, it's that too many are uneducated on how to cook from whole natural ingredients. Chicken and pork are very affordable, you can buy a whole chicken for around $6 and a whole pork shoulder for under $10. Pasta, rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes are all very affordable, as are frozen vegetables. A person just has to know how to cook and season them and put them together. I eat out a lot because I can currently afford it right now and I'm lazy, but I've been poor several times in the past and knowing how to cook good food from scratch allowed me to eat very well for very little. It's an important skill to learn for anyone.

When you cut the garlic bread in half to make enough for eight people which gave you 12 pieces. you then could have cut it in half again and that would have gave you 24 and each person could have had three pieces. Then no one would be crying that someone got more than them. 👌👍

If you can afford it maybe also add some frozen peas to the pasta for some extra nutrition. Or maybe some kind of canned beans like chickpeas, kidney beans or cannelli beans. I often top my pasta dishes with a fried egg because it tastes good and adds more nutrition.

I’m only 14 and about 5 feet tall, but at my worst, I was 60 pounds. Long story short, I decided to make myself better at some point. Started working out, gaining weight (the right way), and now I feel great. It’s not easy man but you gotta motivate yourself to do better. Although I know everybody says that and it’s really not motivating. But a lot of times working hard sucks. Just push through and reap the benefits. Maybe that helps, I don’t know. I can say for sure that hearing stuff like this didn’t necessarily motivate me, because I heard it all the time. This is becoming way too long and emotional, hopefully your find your way, the end.

Little tip for the sauce, if you absolutely wanna get every little drip of sauce, any sauce really, it helps to swish around a little water to help get the rest of the sauce from the edges of the can. The extra water will evaporate while you let the sauce simmer for a bit so it won't taste watered down

If you rinse the noodles before cooking them, you’ll wash away the starches contained on the surface. Since less starches will dissolve in the pasta water as the noodles boil, the pasta water is going to come out less starchy and the sauce will have a harder time clinging to the noodles themselves. This also happens when you stir the pasta often when it is cooking. Stir it when it first put in the water and 1 more half way to keep from sticking to the bottom of the pot.

Thanks for posting videos like this. I saw some people say that stuff like this is common sense and in a way, yes it is, but if you have the misfortune of having unreliable parents or a rough upbringing you still have to learn these kind of things the same way a child has to learn 'common sense' lessons like not to draw on the walls with crayons. If you look at the views for videos like "How to fry an egg", it's obvious that this is not an uncommon situation for people to be in. Additionally, if you're in that kind of situation, you're also pretty likely to be in a financially tight situation, so videos like these really do help people.
