The new update is shit.. sniping spots can no longer be accessed on some maps and instead if you go in them your tank is blown up. also many many new bugs to have fun with!

If you meet an enemy at extremely close range in the Archer it's often better to drive past them, beating their turret traverse, and then shoot them from behind with your now aligned gun.

There's a reason they never built another tank like the Archer with the gun backwards. It was just so feared and so powerful, like the Bob Semple tank, that it was deemed too dangerous and powerful.

Its not a tank. Its a self propelled anti-tank gun designed to be used just like he used it, parked somewhere and firing at long range.

There was some legitimate logic to the design. They used the proven and reliable Valentine platform and the artillery branch that used it, from what I've seen David Fletcher say, actually appreciated the ability to fire and move as fast as possible instead of having to turn the tank around. It was a purely ambush/static design in that sense but so long as it was used to it's strengths, it was relatively effective. It doesn't really fit in WT too well because of it's design but it does work in the game if you use it as such. Just hang back, get to a relatively good firing position and snipe. I also believe Fletcher said the tank branch were horrified by the design when they had to use it so it's value was very much based on the doctrine it was used in. But as a self propelled gun, there's nothing particularly bad about mounting the gun backwards. It has it's own strengths and weaknesses as mounting the gun forward.

Use your brakes to turn. Bind left and right brakes, then while pressing forward hold the necessary brake and tanks turn faster.

@@DOLLARplays it uses the tanks momentum when your moving to slide rather then do it mechanically so it's quicker and you lose less speed when done right. Very good for churchills and casemate tank destroyers. For some reason not the best with russian tanks.

It is a challenge for sure, especially as so many players just want to push W and fire. If you can get into position, like Dollar did, you can wreck the enemy team. I wish more tanks were like it in that you had to actually think to use them.

I severely underestimate the Archer. Awkward controls and mediocre rotation speed, but packed with extreme pen for the BR and crazy depression for uphill combo. Tried in RB, although stock I managed to get 6 kills with 0 death in a match. Never judge a clumsy tank by the looks.

I got to liking it... eventually. In addition to the advice about the brakes. I have my KB arrow keys bound in "reverse" for driving backwards things like the Archer, and the wheeled things (ABs, Puma, Daimler, etc.) and I-Go that get a (bit) survivability boost when driven engine first.

Ahhh the Archer. The one British tank that when you shoot solid shot is doesn't feel like you're doing absolutely nothing. Having a gun meant to kill tigers at a tier where you rarely if ever see them is great.

I will admit, i loved this thing back when ive played. Having a 17pdr at BR 3 or somewhere close to it was... brutal. Like stomping kittens brutal. 1 shotting people left, right and center. ...with the exception of having to deal with the whole thing being the wrong side forward.

one thing I usually do to turn faster is to put it in manual mode and up the gear, usually between 2nd and 5th gear. Helps a lot.

What I like about the archer is that, once you're in a firing position, and once enemies are targeting you, you can get out of danger alot sooner thanks to it being backwards

I once played in a WT tournament that was just derp tanks, USSR lineup was KV-2 etc., Britain got the FV4005 and the Archer. I have a screenshot of these KV-2s pushing me at the same time and I'm in a helpless Archer.

If they had the same Merritt-Brown transmission the Churchill had, that thing would have got neutral steering, and turned basically on the spot. But at the time they had lots of Valentine chassis with Meadows gearbox, and desperate to get the 17 pounder into something.... and hadn't yet worked out how to fit it into the Sherman. As a true "Self propelled anti tank gun" it was quite good... as constantly mobile beast .. yeah, not so much

I'm partial, betty because I find it easier too rush certain points, an hold till my team advances up too the point. An if u can manage to do so, it makes it real rough for the opposing team too cap....if that makes sense. Depending on the map. I rarely play the Archer but when I do I use it like the FlakBus, YaG milktruck, and Lancia 3Ro. If I can't set up for long range I drive until I'm almost to the battle and then turn around so I can reverse with the gun 'forward'
