I'm really want to help everyone who has been abused by their abuser, whether if its from a family member, a companion, strangers who pretend to be friends with the victim and related to them. Literally my relationship's beginning. My girlfriend used to be so concerned about everything she did and everyday would bring me stuff like food or coffee in the morning always made sure I was satisfied. I eventually sat her down and I asked her like "Hey so...this isn't normal behavior, this is habit and something built over time. Why do you do this? This is between us and us only so please speak to me." She told me about how her ex always made her bring him things and she'd get yelled at if she didn't get it to him every morning, if she didn't make sure he was comfortable before her she was, it got under my skin. I took care of her, made it aware I didn't expect that. All I expected was her loyalty, full heart, happiness and health. I wanted her to rely on me I told her. And now after three years she's comfortable to be her. To speak up when she's upset, she's come a long way and she's made me so proud each step of the way.

I was in a relationship where I tried to help my partner heal from past traumatic relationships. Things were looking good and they started to open up to me more and more but as time went by things took a turn and before I knew it I was being used and being taken for granted. They did have problems and none of it was fake but I guess something in their nature just changed. In the end I ended our relationship but was hurt and emotionally stressed from shouldering their burdens. This audio really hits pretty close but it made me feel happy and good about myself again, like I was actually being helpful again. @@neomercy_ The worst part of this was that when I showed her a picture of my dachshund, a friend of mine texted me that one of my friends had a suicide attempt. She immediately was like “who is THAT?!”, and acted like I needed to IGNORE her. I went behind her back obviously as this was a situation I couldn’t ignore (if you are wondering, my friend is still around, and she’s been doing a lot better now). My ex acting super callous about it ended up being a massive straw that eventually broke the camel’s back alongside the fact she just kept hiding everything from me because she had “trust issues” that I called it off then and there.

my current girlfriend is acting exactly like that. she too just thought that is how it is to have a partner, because that is what fathers teach their daughters and boyfriends teach their girlfriends. both her previous partners took advantage of her being mentally disabled. the second douchebag even took advantage of her already having been abused. making her move in with him, slowly isolating her from her friends and family, until the only thing she had was him and whatever he let her have. he then just broke up with her when she finally was allowed to visit her mother after years again, throwing her belongings in the trash when she was out of town. 3 months later i met her. i didn't know what happened yet. her teeth were black. she was way too skinny. after just 2 weeks she wanted to move in with me. sure, her mother just died, but i should have realized then how broken she was. it took years for her to be able to tell me she has DID, caused by her stepfather abusing her when she was a child. now, even after being with me for 5 years, she often asks if she can have a glass of water. it is like she still hasn't realized she is her own person that can actually make her own choices. she still sometimes apologizes for basically simply breathing in the same room with me. she still is afraid to ask me for the simplest things. like, if she is hungry, she still rather stay hungry than ask me if i could fix her something. i am glad she is with me now and not another man again. she didn't even realize she was into girls. or that a relationship doesn't have to be abusive. i am her mommy now and she is finally safe.

Those uncertain emotions are very familiar to anyone in or out of a narcissistic relationship. My ex said to me that I would never find anyone as good/nice/pretty... as her, so very soon after splitting I "had" to try flirting with women to prove her wrong. Or maybe to reassure myself of my desirability. In either case I was not ready to begin dating again, but my ego demanded to know I was capable of attracting a lady. On my first date after leaving my abuser I had no idea how to calmly or smoothly interact with a woman, and was constantly checking on her and deferring to her. She got frustrated and snapped at me about being clingy, and realized by my reaction to her rebuke that something wasn't right. We talked about my past (killed any chance of romance with her) and she assured me I was just needing to heal some more. Even after leaving a narcissist they will try to control you from afar, or try to give a final few doubts to hamper your future.

A loving partner is an important part of one's support network but it's also important to recognise that we only know so much and when it's time to seek qualified help (especially if their trauma is this severe).
