Dear friends, sad but true, although happy ending. I am a DV survivor, but my Greenleaf Van Buren dollhouse wasnt, NY street find. I was walking home ..different home..one night around Christmas. Made a Christmas wish, I wished I had a dollhouse to put all my miniatures in and there on the sidewalk was a French Chateau with a Mansard roof, good condition. I carried it home and made it my own. Always decorated for Christmas year round. Roof top garden too. As I longed for my Van Buren ,discontinued by Greenleaf, I searched ebay and found one. JOY You have got to believe.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

DV survivor myself. Got out with most of my miniature furniture, but houses didn’t make it. I’m finally crawling out of the past and just bought an old kit on eBay. Hugs and best wishes to you from Texas. ❤️❤️❤️

@barbaraobrien3522 oh Barbara! Your message has just shown up on my youtube channel and I can't ever remember seeing it before now! KZbin does this sometimes, I get notifications for most comments, but I keep finding ones that I've never had a notification for, so I don't see them! 😒 but I just had to reply to you now. And quite "spooky" as your comment was about Christmas time! I loved your story about the French chateau, what a find! And so nice that you made a Christmas theme of it. And yes, I definitely believe in never giving up, and sometimes dreams DO come true! 😊🙏❤️

Just found you and I'm thrilled! I was given a very large 9 room Victorian 8 years ago to redo for my granddaughter. I'd always dreamt of a dollhouse and my oldest sister built several. I had such fun and learned so much (and spent so much money) that I bought a kit as soon as it was finished. Life got in the way and I put it aside for 8 years. I just got it back out in December and finished it last week. The building, anyway. I did paper and flooring as I went. Now it's move-in time and I have decided to make more furniture this time. You've given me so many ideas and materials ideas and I've just found Julie of Little Bits &Pieces and I'm hooked again! Thank you for being here!

I'm so glad I came across your channel. By the way super Love your cabinet, and your beautiful houses. I've been wanting a dollhouse since I was a young child. I'm in my 50's now, and also been a crafter for a couple of years now. So I thought of it again, you made me feel alittle more at ease with actually starting the process. So im currently trying to make furniture, for my dollhouse, that I don't even have yet. Lol but was thinking of just making room boxes, to get the feel of it. I will be coming back to your page for inspiration. Thanks so muck for this video. 😊❤

Thank you so much for watching my videos 🙏 and lovely to hear your story, you have definitely come to the right place for inspiration! 😁 You mentioned maybe getting a room box to begin with, and that's absolutely fine. But to be honest, if I were you, I would probably look on my local selling pages, and pick up a second hand house that you like the look of. You can then enjoy renovating it and making it "your own" creation! If you had time to watch my videos from the beginning, there are tons of tips AND ideas, of how, and what you can do to change or decorate your house! If you do, it would be lovely to send comments, to let me know how you are getting on, on your dollshouse journey! 😊🙏

What a precious little addition to your family. I appreciate the re-showing of your dollhouses , because even when we've seen one being created it's so fun to see it again, and whenever you get the furnishings back in from houses being moved that will be great as well. I put together a Victorian dollhouse kit a few years back and it has been sitting in my workroom, neglected for quite a while. Now I'm all hyped up to start working on it again after watching this, so a big Thank You! Hugs to you, John, Nigel and Georgie.

Yes it's a great way to think, before you make or build anything in miniature! If you want to make a sofa for example, in real life you imagine all the structure inside, and springs, screws etc, but on the outside you just see cushions and two arms etc. so just make the shapes with a piece of balsa perhaps. And glue a bit of fabric to cover up the wood. So you've really made what you see, not what you know in real life things! ❤️

Anyway, just to let you know, I am inspired by seeing all of your beautiful doll houses & I love the piece of furniture you were showing at the end of the video …. Yes the hinges were a little big, but I think they look great on this piece, & its all part of the charm of a handmade piece of furniture. Love your houses! I recognised the interior of the French haberdashery, it's the 'Manor' . I have one with the basement. I bought it off my sister-in-law back in 2006. I have added lots to it and almost 20 years later, it is still my pride and joy, I'm sure Michelle would be blown over if she knew I still have it as she's been divorced from my brother many years. When I've moved house, my house came too, and the only people to have it when I pop my clogs (😂,) are the Guide Dogs where the proceeds will help carry on their fantastic work. I have just bought my second flat-packed DHD house. I just love the miniature world and this latest one is going to be a coffee shop with tables selling light lunches also. There will be a few alterations on the ground floor and stairs going up to the living quarters. Careful planning and taking things slowly is definitely a must for my next project. Great Video and love your shirt 🥰

Another great insight into your dolls houses with so many ideas. I may have said before but my house was made for me nearly 18 ish years ago from a kit . I am now changing it because I felt it was generic and i want it to be more "me". A little scary but I am giving it a go, no dolls house police 😹
@RichMiniatures Жыл бұрын
Yes, always keep that in mind...there are no dollshouse police!!! 😁 It's such a nice journey to go on, when you start adding your own ideas into a generic built house. Like you say, it then becomes yours 😊 think about cutting a piece of MDF to put in, a false wall perhaps. Or even gluing a door onto the back of a wall, to give the appearance of depth in the house. There are a ton of things you can do to add your own character. I hope you enjoy your own journey, but just don't let it stress you....it's just a dollshouse, not a divorce! 😁 xx

❤️’d every minute. What a lovely commute - I can imagine the smell of Nag Champa (my favorite) wafting across the garden!! The kitchen furniture piece is very nice!! In the US these pieces are sometimes called a ‘hutch’. ☮️❤️

Thank you for taking the time to enjoy 🙏 but also, thank you so much for the "hutch" info! I absolutely LOVE to learn things like that! So interesting 🙏❤️
@suesmith7968 Жыл бұрын
@@RichMiniatures Why a hutch is called that is due to the history of the English language. In Old English, the word for a box or chest is hwiċe or hwiċċe. Eventually, over time, the word became hutch, which refers to a type of case good that features a set of shelves or cabinets placed on top of a lower structure that is outfitted with drawers or additional cabinets. Hutches are most often found in dining rooms or kitchens.

@@suesmith7968 so very very interesting about the hutch, and why it's called by that name. I have to say that for me, the best part about doing my video, was to learn something like that, about a piece of furniture that I'd made! Absolutely amazing! 🙏❤️🙏

Hi Richard thanks for the encouragement. I am the same as the lady who said she is scared of making a mistake. I bought my dolls house some 5 months ago and it’s still in the box. First thing I see when I get home as it’s by the front door. Trying to clear a work area and nearly there. It may be in the living/dining area but who cares. I don’t entertain any more and only have to suit myself. The joys of getting older, you don’t care what other people think. By the way I love your dragon fly shirt (did you make it?) and the little kitchen cupboard/hutch is so cute. Would love a tutorial on the sofa and chair you made in the boho house as I had trouble following Julie W when it came to put on the piping..is that the correct word. I think that’s what we call it in Australia. Cheers also to John Boy, Nigel and Georgie 😊 Robyn ❤

G'day Robyn, you are very welcome 🙏 I'm glad you enjoy watching my videos. I can picture a box with a kit house inside...you must set yourself a date in the near future, to say that you will get that kit out and start looking at the instructions! And you are completely right, build your house exactly where it suits you, who cares if someone does come to visit, if anything, it could be a talking point! 😁 Yes, I made the shirt, I make all of our shirts for myself and John boy. Just out of interest, I'd love to know which house you have bought? There's so many out there to choose from. Maybe one day I will make time to do a tutorial on the sofa 🤞

I had one too, exactly as you described named Georgie for 18 years, who passed on August 31st, 2021.😢 what a delight he was & always wanted to be a Mana kitty & finally was blessed to fulfill his dreams with a sweet baby girl tabby like him I adopted 4 years b4 he passed. They were inseparable & I got loads of amazing pictures! He even allowed her to "nurse" on him by sucking tufts of his golden hair on his belly! OMG!! It was a beautiful experience watching them love each other! ❤🎉😂

Hi Richard great to get a reply, as I know you are a busy man. I bought a “Townhouse”. I think it’s a very basic kit. Honestly it was the only one I could afford as a first timer $375. Not much to choose from in WA. There is only this one shop that I know of. Too expensive to buy online as shipping is so expensive. I keep changing my mind as to what I want to do with the house. Thought of doing a Victorian style and before that it was a shop (bakery), then something else. As you would say who knows..who cares. Say hello to the biggest procrastinator. LOL. I will sleep on it AGAIN. Who sleeps when they buy a dolls house. It’s on my mind all the time. Well it’s 9.50pm here so will hit the hay soon. Cheers from me 😊

Hi me 😊 a townhouse sounds just great. But even as a first timer, you've still bought one that wasn't that cheap! It can be a project though for years to come...a great investment me thinks! And you're right, it becomes so difficult not to think about dollshouses, that you end up going over and over your plans, instead of getting some sleep! By the way, if possible could you send me an email, direct to my email address: richsheed@gmail.com I just wanted to send you a chat about dollshouseing etc? Sleep tight 😴

At the risk of embarrassing myself I have to tell you that I thought Amelie was a client and I often got quite irritated with her because she would wake you to tell you she changed her mind about something or wanted something changed. Her lack of consideration for you was astounding! I even wondered what time zone she was in to be calling so late at night! I have come to realize that she is like your gay gentlemen in the Art Deco house. Right? You can stop laughing now! 🤣
