I'd argue this is actually better than the recorded version. Dolly's voice is so amazingly powerful when backed by the love of the Lord, in heaven above.

This is from 'Austin City Limits' on PBS. Dolly nails this tune 'Shine', a tune made famous by the band 'Collective Soul'. Heard one of the members from that band say he liked her version of the song better than the one they did....quite a compliment, wouldn't you say?

I’m a rock fan, and not that much into country, but have ALWAYS loved Dolly! Such a great talent! She was a great singer, songwriter, and musician as well! She really broke down many barriers for female artist to create their own material at a time that was resistant to that! She’s a genius! And a role model!!

@@aquariusrising7019 People are determined to try and make it seem like this was not a Collective Soul (Ed Roland) original. The He-Haw crowd can't stand the thought of a original rock song having great lyrics and soul written by some dude who at the time was a no name inspiring alt rocker working in a recording studio. In an interview he said he wrote this at work on borrowed time, played all the instruments and spiced it together. Pretty cool.

Before collective soul did their version of this melody for " SHINE " upon release in 1993 & although the melody was reengineered it was originally a melody written for a British pop singer song writer & lyricist Paul Young was his song that he penned on this melody in 1984 was called " EVERY TIME YOU GO AWAY " the same melody but different lyrics & different styles from collective souls " SHINE " in 1993 & then Dolly Parton's Bluegrass version of " SHINE " in 1994 & then to Paul Young's " EVERY TIME YOU GO AWAY " in 1984 all the same song that differs slightly in melody but all use an identical chorus with a different slide on the songs main Lyrics.
@tweitner8 жыл бұрын
+lgbmaster1972 I've looked at the sheet music for both songs and cannot see where they are the same song. Also, Daryl Hall wrote "Every Time You Go Away" and Hall & Oates recorded it for their 1980 Album "Voices". It wasn't released as a single. Paul Young released it in 1985 and it was a big hit. After looking at the sheet music and the guitar tabs, even saying the chorus is the same is, in my opinion, incorrect. The chord progression in "Shine" for the chorus is B, F#, and C# while "Every Time" is F, Dm, Gm, D7, C7, and C. The notes are different (but that could be different keys), but even the beats are different. Shine starts with 16th notes, while Every Time starts with quarter notes. Shine starts on of G/B and Every Time starts off on C/F/A. I've just spent time playing both songs over and over trying to find similarities, and I don't hear it at all. I usually have a good ear for this (like "Wild Thing" and "Time for Me to Fly" start off with the same chords). Sorry, I just don't see them being the same melody. But, I'll pass it on to a couple of buddies who also have good ears to get their take on it.
