A day trip to Dolly Varden Lake on the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge to fish for trout from my small skiff. The drive takes me up Swanson River Road and into the wilderness. There is a small campground and boat launch just off the road at about mile 14 and a Refuge cabin that can be rented in a back corner of the lake. The lake has a population of Dolly Varden and Rainbow Trout. The lake is surrounded by forest and provides plenty of water recreation and fishing. There is a NO WAKE restriction for power boats. Throughout my years of exploring this area I have seen Bears, Moose, Lynx, Otters, Coyotes, Eagles, Hawks, Grouse, Beavers,
Loons, Swans, and a variety of birds.
