In Early october 2012, we headed up to Dollywood, where EX-USATC/WP&Y 190 class 2-8-2 #192 was supposed to be operating. Unfortunately 192 was unable to steam this weekend, so 70 was run instead. Enjoy.

Not as of 2008. Nobody rides in the cab. My Camera was placed in the cab by the crew.

Another great video. Does Dollywood not let people ride in the cab? I only ask because Tweetsie will I think, if you're lucky lol.

Is it common practice for the engineers to ride the Independent brake while attached to a train. I always thought the Automatic should be used, and the independent bailed off and kept released to prevent the wearing of brake shoes, unwanted slack action and the burning of locomotive tires. Just wondering, I've been on locomotives before and this is the first time I saw an engineer use the Independent brake so much while pulling a train....

He’s really only using it when the train is coming downhill. Dollywoods tracks go uphill, so on the way back to town they shut off the regulator and the engineer keeps his speed with the independent break! That’s just my guess anyway

@@creeperkiller9795 poor train handling is not being able to control the slack action on the train (which can lead to discomfort/injury to passengers, damaging of freight or damage to the car draft gear/couplers. It can even lead to a derailment) or operating in a manual which damages or wears parts prematurely. Locomotive brake shoes are more expensive than those on the cars.

What are the rails in the center for
@calebhodge65746 жыл бұрын
Dollywood Railfan the rails in the center are incase of a derailment. If the wheels go off the track the center rail is there to keep the engine from completely turning over.

Thanks. I was unaware. And awaiting an answer for several years.

Dollywood Railfan they have an exceptional amount of “safety rail” in the sharper curves and anywhere there is an embankment close to the track center.

And that really stinks,but kinda understandable. :(
