Itinerary
We took the shuttle ride from the parking area off road SS52 connecting San Candido / Innichen to Sesto / Sexten to the trailhead up Val Campo di Dentro / Innerfeldtal. The shuttle run in the summertime.
From the trailhead trail 105 to Rifugio Tre Scarperi / Dreischusterhütte. Continue on trail 105 to the junctions to trails 9 and 10 toward Passo Grande dei Rondoi / Wildgrabenjoch. At the Pass, trail 11 to Passo dell'Alpe Mattina / Gwengalpenjoch, then continue to trail 11A to junction to trail 105. Trail 105 to descent back to Valle Campo di Dentro / Innerfeldtal to reach Rifugio Tre Scarperi / Dreischusterhütte and the trailhead.
Trip total: Approx. 9.5 mi, approx. 3600 ft elevation gain.

First hike of our hiking trip to the Dolomiti di Sesto / Sextener Dolomiten with a bang!
An absolutely gorgeous itinerary throughout, featuring great views of the mighty Tre Cime / Drei Zinnen Peaks without the big crowd. Once the Passo Grande dei Rondoi is reached, the northface of the iconic Dolomites Tre Cime / Drien Zinnen Peaks are in full view just across the valley, surrounded by the many other superb mountain massifs of the Dolomiti di Sesto, Dolomiti di Cadore and Ampezzane: Mt. Paterno, Cadini, Croda dei Toni, Cristallo, Sorapiss and more.
This is a superb day hike. Mileage and elevation gain are significant, on the other hand they are not very challenging either. An easy hike for experienced hikers. The trails are great, extremely well maintained and marked. They are simply steep in some sections, but that is to be expected.
We only met a handful of hikers during the entire day - a stark contrast to the hordes you will meet hiking the classic Tre Cime / Drei Zinnen from the overcrowded parking area on the South side of the Peaks.
The short technical section with metal wire support above Passo Grande dei Rondoi is not problematic and does not require via ferrata gear.
Great 10/10 hike in the Dolomites.
