Turned out better than I thought it would . It is a drama not a documentary . The principals were portrayed more sympathetically in the program than in the book .

They never mentioned decommissioning in the ceasefire announcement but was a good way of showing the surrender process in a few minutes.

Are they supposed to drag out the series for ten more years simply to satisfy your sense of perfectionism?
@shredder95367 күн бұрын
@petebondurant58 no I'm saying they did it well in that one scene

This never happened. Decommissioning was in 2005 and agreed as part of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement. This section of the show is based on the ceasefire, which followed the Downing Street declaration in 1994. I understand changing small details for dramatic purposes, but this is nonsense. This ceasefire was the beginning of formal talks to establish a peace process after the UK government declared no selfish interest in the 6 counties. If decommissioning was truly the first thing agreed by the leadership, the dissidents would have become the mainstream of irish republicanism. I haven't even seen the show, but if details are this far off, it couldn't be worth watching if you're a history buff.

SF sold out and called those of us who disagreed with them “dissidents “ despite them being the ones who dissented from the cause of republicanism .

@@PeterFlanagan0987I’m not an actual dissident , I don’t support any of the new paramilitaries they’re common criminals , I just left SF and the entire movement because they’re not actual republicans but common. I’m not involved in any Republican Party or organisation now. My point was that SF call anyone in the republican movement who disagrees with them a dissident. Many people like myself who left SF were called anti peace etc just because we no longer believed in the informant riddled dictatorship of Adam’s . After the Liam Adam’s attempted cover up by Gerry and the Paul Quinn cover up from Conor Murphy I was proved right that they’re not real republicans but common criminals .

@@PeterFlanagan0987I left SF in 1983 and left the republican movement in totality and didn’t join any other group or political party, I had just had enough of the lies from senior leadership. I was called a “dissident “ for simply Not buying into Adam’s and co propaganda, doesn’t mean I agree with the nut jobs like mckevitt and the RIRA criminals . If you’re not pro SF they label you a dissident now a days …. I was harassed by SF members for speaking out against Conor Murphy and co in the aftermath of Paul Quinn being lured to his death by caraher and slabs goons in 2005, well after the ceasefire .

Scotch? Who in Belfast would say scotch instead of whiskey? That's how "realistic" this is - americanised ballix.

Can't speak for Belfast but there is a huge difference between Irish whiskey and skotch in terms of texture and even colour

@hablin1 did the brits win the troubles then In 1998? Because they kept northern Ireland/the 6 counties.
