One of the best vids out there, effectively a "how to use compression" master class. I've meddled with compressors for a while without getting the tone I was looking for. This demoes the interaction between tone/volume control, pup, the pedal and the amp across single coils and humbuckers combined with some very tasty playing. Only one suggestion, to get 12 out of 10 I would have loved to see you use the comp to beef up a slide guitar sound.

Thanks, good point. It will work awesome for slide, no doubt.

best compressor out there in my opinion, this pedal has a unique clarity that I haven't find elsewhere, it compresses but also gives a nice clarity to the signal. I am impressed indeed.

Cool compressor. Seems to add articulation, punch and presence. I don't like the "squishy" compressors either. I have a Boss CS3 that I used to use and I've tried several others such MXR, but I thought it squished my tone way too much. I really like the Barber Tonepress. Been using it for several years now. There's a blend knob which lets you blend in your natural uncompressed tone along with the compressed tone. You can use it as a straight compressor or as a clean boost. Great compressor. The Accountant seems very versatile. Heard good things about the Keeley compressor too though I've never tried one. Thanks~Dan

Nice direct sound, I wonder how the compressor sounds without your direct guitar tone, breathing etc. overshadowing everything.

Dear Robert. Have been a fan of yours for years and it seems you have finally hit the big time ( True Fire ) LOL. Congrats. I am impressed with that compressor however this question. My pedal board holds in this order from guitar to amp. Tube Screamer / Love Pedal Les Lius/ Carl Martin Plexitone. The tones the Fairfax Comp produces are great but would I be going into " over kill " by adding a compressor to that line up ?
@Dolphinstreets10 жыл бұрын
Hi Pie! Thank you! This compressor is different than the pedals you have. It doesn't produce a lot of overdrive like those other pedals you have. If you like a somewhat clean tone that still have the dynamics of a cranked amp, you would like this pedal. I find this pedal brings out a sparkle of my amp. I don't use it with other gain pedals or with a lot of amp distortion, but a light crunch on the amp, and then add this pedal - tone heaven (for me).

Tube screamer and crybaby wah
@danielguitar51506 жыл бұрын
any tube screamer style and crybaby in particular?
@Dolphinstreets6 жыл бұрын
Not exactly. It's just a matter of preference. Tons of clones of TS pedals out there. Try them all! Haha For starters, try the Ibanez TS9 or TS10. I have a BYOC TS style pedal I love. For wah, I like the Dunlop standard crybaby. I also have a Reece RMC-5 which is fantastic. See kzbin.info/www/bejne/rX3VgWCLmdWJidU

Robert Renman Do you notice any noise with the pedal at all? Especially when using it with more overdrive on your amp or with overdrive pedals?
@Dolphinstreets10 жыл бұрын
***** It is a fantastic pedal, and not noisy. However, any compressor will introduce noise if you bring up the gain enough, especially with other gain pedals being used. I never use it with an overdrive pedal - that has no purpose for me. My overdrive pedal will give me compression anyway, so I use this compressor on clean sounds only. If I want more "oomph", I may use a boost pedal to give it "one more"... ;)

I would love to hear it on a heavy distortion :c

bought this pedal but ended up selling it. it has a lot of hiss and the compression was not natural sounding / feeling to me.
@profd655 жыл бұрын
You need to turn your guitar amp up: it's so incredibly quiet that a lot of the sound the mic is picking up (and we are hearing) is acoustic, it comes straight off the guitar.

My compressor is pretty noisy, how is this one in that respect, Robert?
@Dolphinstreets10 жыл бұрын
Not noisy, no. Unless to turn it up all the way, of course! But it's very flexible, you can set it to low compression - very little noise.
