Hands down the single most heart wrenching moment in video game history. When I first played through the trilogy, it was with my brother. I was always player 2, I was playing as Dom since the very beginning. Watching him die broke me.

A sad episode, but Epic Games did a good job with this segment of the story; the usage of Gary Jules' Mad World dates back to the advertisement of the 1st game (setting the grim-dark theme of the game's world), so it being used here was appropriate; it's a mad world we live, in Gears. Dom being a brother-in-arms from the beginning of the journey, makes seeing him go out like this hurt; genuinely hard not tear up and cry at this scene. 😢 RIP Dominic Santiago.

I remember this scene so vividly. Gears of War was me and my best friends' favorite game, we played through the whole trilogy together. He was always Marcus and I was always Dom. We both got this on release day and played through the whole game straight through with a couple of our friends for a four-man group. When Dom died, I just set my controller down and stared at the screen for about fifteen minutes. Felt like part of my soul had just been ripped away. That callback with the music to the first-ever Gears of War trailer just sold the whole thing so well, too. I legitimately don't remember anything from the rest of the game and I've never gone back to play through it since. For me, the original Gears trilogy ended at this scene.

I had to stop what I was doing and just completely let those final few minutes absorb me and take me over. I was right there with you boss - thanks for letting us share it with you. A really emotionally charged and powerful episode in lots of ways and one which reminds us how important the bond between the two boys is in this. You should rewatch the E-day trailer and you’ll understand why that trailer means a lot to the fans of this franchise. I don’t hate Gears 4 and 5 and I truly believe that they’re not as bad as people make them out to be, but it’s just not the same anymore. Don’t get me wrong, they are still fun games and still have awesome moments , I aso find the story interesting (won’t spoil so you get to enjoy them, and I’m sure you will) but just going back to the good old days, experiencing Emergence Day which is probably the most important event in the lore that we haven’t seen before, AND having Dom back. I can’t wait!

When you compare 4 and 5 to the trilogy, the story is just not good and they just butchered characters to make that choice have more impact. Multiplayer and horde were probably in the best place they have been in, it's just where the story went and how everything happened is what rubbed people the wrong way

I have high hopes for E-day, just by the trailer alone I believe The Coalition finally seem to understand what made the original games great and what the people want, and Im confident they will deliver but I’ll remain cautious.

35:25 🥺 Like some of the other people commenting this was also the first time I felt a real loss and sadness playing a game. First time playing this through on couch co-op with my younger brother, I had a pit in my stomach the entire time once the cutscene started rolling. We'd been shooting the breeze like you do, talking ammo and weapons during the firefight before it, and when it all went down, I don't think either of us said a word until a few minutes into the next level. I know he's only a video character, but after playing as him and alongside him for years during the original Gears trilogy, it still hurt.

You know, I think the reason Dom didn’t take his knife back was because, in a way, he was getting his affairs in order, if you know what I mean. He gave it to Marcus cause he knew Marcus had more fight in him than he did, more to fight for. Dom pretty much lost everything, save for his few friends. He lost his family, his faith… even himself. You can see it nearly every time you look at him. He was already dead… but he just needed to say goodbye 😔

I got introduced into gears of war playing Co Op with my cousin. So I always played as Dom until well this happened. It sucks how despite everything that happened Dom still would crack jokes but you could still see how broken he was. Now we also finally get to see Marcus break from his typical grumpy asshole personality :(
