People need a little education here. - Kawhi was drafted by Indiana - Players like Kyrie, Williams, Fredette..had more upside and obvious transferable skills AT THE TIME - Kawhi was a low ceiling high risk type player - Kawhi did not do anything particularly well other than have length and a good motor. - Hindsight is 20/20 - Kawhi earned his way to where he is now. If people drafted after him had the same work ethic we'd say the same thing about them Hats off to Kawhi though for putting in the work and perfecting his craft. He's gone a long way compared to anyone in his draft class
@JordanWindhamBenford5 жыл бұрын
No excuse. Kawhi didn't have the precious and most coveted Jumper but he did have a defensive skillset that is so important to any team looking to make a championship run. Especially in a league that triple-doubles every night and yawns during a 130 point game. There were reasons to draft him higher, considering how much owners pay GMs and invest in tech to help find the best players. No excuse to be skipping Kawhi and Giannis like this.

Wartime Christian like he said hindsight is 2020. Idk if you remember but you should’ve seen Kawhi pre NBA. Or even early on on the Spurs. He completely improved every facet of his game offensively. @@exillens I'd say 90% pf players who spend 2-3+ summers with spurs get extremely good on defense or shooting or both . John Simmons & Kyle Anderson in the past 2 -3 years were honestly not looked at but we made them wanted enough to be prime role players for other teams, kawhi was good but to me his versatility was not as promising as it was in 2013 after he had spent I'd say a year and a half with spurs but he was definitely good. Let's see how demar derozan does in the next year or two if his shooting percentage increases from a three and if he can pick up on D we can credit that to hard work and spurs system, Derrick white is another prime example of how the spurs create greatness.

@ctrlsoul5 жыл бұрын
Pacers were at "win-now" situation when the trade happened, they can't just wait for developing another wing when they had PG13 and Danny Granger already. At that time, the trade for George Hill was actually a great move to strengthen their relative weak guard position (which they did get first place in the East in the regular season with him in 2013). Of course, having both PG13 and Leonard would be nice, but Leonard was very likely to be a bench player on that team and probably wouldn't be developed to be as good as he is now

Good points. Being drafted high sets a lot of expectations and it puts a lot of pressure and frustration if those are not met. I think him landing in the spurs surrounded by veterans and coach pop, is what we see of him now.

Idgaf what anyone says you a spurs legend man. I honestly believe he wouldn’t have turned out the same had he gone to any team besides us. Very little teams now actually believing in you know, steady DEVELOPMENT and will deal future stars in 1 or 2 seasons.

Because he was one dimensional great defensive player he wasn’t a scorer in college. It wasn’t until Coach Pop told him to shoot the ball he became an all around great player.

Being drafted to the Spurs and the teammates he had to start his career definitely helped shape some of the player he is today. He gets traded after 1 yr with a team he isn't the same player in my opinion. He got to learn from the best and was able to develop with time. Spurs set him up to be THE guy for a LONG time, it's so truly sad and disappointing as a Spurs fan to see how it ended but damn he's one hell of a player today.

I'm pretty sure Kawhi wouldn't be the player he is today of not for the Spurs ... Seriously he had so many great mentors in Pop, Mr. Fundamentals, Parker, Ginóbili ... I'm sure their teachings were from defense, to offense, to mentality strength, etc ... So yeah, perfect environment can totally develop the true potential.
