Dom your tutorials are a GOD SEND! Do you have anything on the absolute basics of Illustrator? I've been proficient in Photoshop for 5 or 6 years now and I'm making the transition to Illustrator and I am so confused on some things, but the biggest is... why don't I have a background?? I know it sounds stupid, but how do you start with a white rectangle? Is there a preferences setting for that or do you add it in before recording the video? A tutorial and the absolute basics of how you set up a project would be awesome! Thanks man and keep it up!

If i get your question right let me answer in case it helps,,so first when you open adobe and click to create new there are options on what background you want to draw like letter and all select it and you will get a white background of the size you choose hope this will help you and you can ask if your question is not this but different 👍and you can also take help of the artboard tool it will provide you an artboard to draw☺️👍

I didnt get the part where he use the compound path something 2x part. Why did it turned black and how to delete the border? What control should we use?

When u release compound path, everything turns black. Just click on the outer shape and delete it. Then just add ur colours and turn on ur outline layer.

Sorry I have soo many questions!! And I'm really struggling with your tutorial!! When you do the leaf, how the hell do you do that zigzag motion but still curved?! I find it impossible with the curvature tool. Not possible!! Also if I want to start a line (curvature or regular pen) it does NOT let me! It's like I have to continue the line until I complete a shape! Won't let me otherwise. Unless I just to arrow. Very cumbersome and annoying! Now if I want to create a shape with the pen or the paintbrush, I *can't* fill the entire shape. Why is that? Another case, if I built a donut, and to create the hole I put two elliptical tools, and try to cancel the irrelevant lines, it's very difficult, near impossible and I can't fill the shape minus the hole! The hole gets filled up also!

You need to do a better job at explaining things. So many details are left missed (I.e. previous comment of mine) and you don't explain clearly and slowly enough at certain moments. Yes it's all nice and well how you can zoom through it and create a picture but I've had to go back a DOZENS OF TIMES and still miss a tiny detail like press alt and then click!! It's very frustrating! Could have saved me a TONE of time!! So plz just repeat the action and specify it clearly what you are doing. I've spent HOURS upon HOURS now trying to achieve the actions you've demonstrated and I am not at all getting the same results!! Or at best, after great pain! Please be clearer!! And repeat exactly what you are doing!!

@@DomDesigns Ok what it is, is that you move on your software like we KNOW ALREADY what we are doing!!! But you forget that we are new to all of this! So every action you do (like path finder! Where do I find it? If I can't find it, how to bring it so it's visible on my settings [am on essential classic settings). If you do a certain action clearly say and say it CLEARLY what exactly you are doing! Take your time!! I don't care if it's a 20 mins video! As long as it's clear and I can follow properly!! I have done the exercise but I can't fill the ice cream bowl because the vectors somehow are not joined! So I'm only getting certain parts filled with colour!! Plz help on that ciz I can't proceed forward!! Please!! *Just make yourself clearer with every action!!* *I can't stress this enough!!* It's just so frustrating when people on KZbin just zoom in action thinking we all know exactly what to do where everything is and how to do the simplest action (like you never told us how to work the pen tool and how to curve the lines! I was struggling immensely with this!) Where is your basics video?!
