1.9.2021. Perfect conditions, raw and uncut.
Just the flight down, no suffering on the way up is shown in this video!
The hike up was a full adventure...
I didn´t really know how my body would behave up 4000m+ in the first place ... and without proper acclimatisation next. From 3900 on it was hard, we had to wait a lot and at the same time could feel the altitude. At the Solvay hut at 4003m we had a short break, after that I felt better, the peak came closer and closer. Determination. There was no reason to stop - nor to rush! The weather was perfect and it was 8:40. Easy.
The next 200m to the shoulder were ok, but higher up at the fixed ropes it became kinda ... bad. The early birds are coming down with their guests - lots of ellbowtechnique needed and one has to breath twice for every single inhale...
But the last 100m snowfield is a Stairway to Heaven, I couldn´t wait to get higher and higher, step by step by step.
We reached the summit at 10:45 - 5:45h after starting at the Hörnlihut (they didn´t let us start earlier, no funny stuff!) and a lot of waiting, climbing, hiking, scrambling, (repeat) and some suffering 😉
The way down was easy and fast and definitely the reason why we did this to ourselves 🙂
With Fabian Gräble, who choose the fast way down and Stephan Gößwein, who had to hike back all the way to Schwarzsee!
Make it look easy :)
(It was not)
P.S. Some already asked if it was possible or why I didn´t fly down to Zermatt. It´s definetly possible (on a day like this) to pass the ridge and fly to Furi (middlestation), which was my initial flightplan when we arrived in Zermatt the day before. But during the long hours of the ascent a serious bonding occurred between us and doing so, I couldn´t share the moment of success together with Fabian! So I flared, pulled and landed at Schwarzsee, waiting for him to enjoy the mutual experience!

@@NoName-fo7mz Then how did they get up there? They climbed it, they flew down. Have you been there? I have and it gives such an awesome perspective of what some of us have climbed. I always thought skiing back down from a climb was awesome, this just blows that away. Do you even understand what you are looking at? Where Zermatt is? Where the average tourist goes? The fact they covered so much distance in a matter of minutes blows my mind. I have perspective, you don't.

Dunno what it’s like for the guys doing it but I had one fly over my head while I was climb a ridge not a million miles from here and the noise is something else. I almost shit myself. Think of sails flapping in 140 mile an hour winds and you get some idea. Climbers often think it’s rockfall coming down.

I had visited the Matterhorn a decade ago, so this video was a delight and particularly meaningful to me personally, with Zermatt in the distance. I'm amazed you climbed the mountain and then jumped from the top all in one morning. Isn't that exhausting? I saw the Solvay Hut and the Hornlihutte on the way down. This is my video of the week!
