Sorry, I just have to clarify a few things for newbies that may come across this video: 1. Carrier pigeons were the messengers back in the wartime days. They took a good number of them with them (homing pigeons to be specific) so that they could discreetly send messages back to the higher-ups to keep them informed of what was happening in and around the battlefield. Not only that but pigeons were used for messages not relating to war as well. In fact, it was quite common to see coops in big cities in ancient history as well that would carry messages. It wasn't always pigeons; sometimes birds like hawks and ravens were used as well. 2. I alluded to this one, but it's the homing pigeons that have the ability to find their way back home, not doves. Doves do not have this same ability and if they do get out of the cage and out of the house, they will not find their way back home. This is especially true for ringneck doves that have been bred in captivity to the point of losing a lot of the survival skills you'd normally see in a wild one. 3. Some species of birds are prey animals to larger birds. Yes, they can fly and get away provided their feathers aren't clipped. However, it's a natural instinct for them to be wary of anything and anyone trying to catch them. Even ones that are bonded to you may have issues with you trying to get it back in the cage. To anyone who stumbles across this video while researching doves as pets; please do not use this video as an explanation of how to care for doves. There is plenty of other channels out there that have the correct information for you to use in caring for your doves. Always look at many different sources, never rely on just one for your information.

Uh, pigeons delivered your messages in the world wars my bro. They were absolute heroes who saved thousand of human lives. Let’s get educated before we spout stuff on the internet. Plus, you are showing pigeons basically this entire video. They are just fancy pigeons that have been selectively bred to be different colours. A pigeon is just a type of dove, so don’t try to make it seem like telling them apart is some special thing. Humans are the ones that gave pigeons a bad reputation, not the bird themselves.

Things that were wrong: -Doves and pigeons are the same thing...we just use different names because of their different sizes. -Carrier pigeons were used in the world wars, not doves. -If you open the cage and your bird flies off, they are not bonded with you. They are afraid of you. It's like if your cat/dog ran away from you when you come up to them. -Doves also do not have the homing ability, particulary Ring necked doves, who are domesticated to the point of no survival instincts. Almost all released pet doves get lost and die within two days. -Wtf with the bird of prey question????

What do you feed them?
@Ruth_Looney3 жыл бұрын
For your doves best health, mix 2 feed mixes together and mix in a few greens (kale and bean sprouts are great). Make sure you introduce the greens very gradually. Also have a separate feeding tub in the cage with grit in it. Doves eat their seeds whole, and the grit helps them digest it. And although this is not a must, and is really great for your doves is you also mix in calcium with their seed. Fruits can be occasional treats. I hope it's not too confusing, and thanks to all who read this!
