@@faithreturns333 After what this family did for that bird you call them a "stupid family"? If they want to give it a chance to go free it's their choice since they put so much love and effort into that bird's care, and their decision seems like a perfectly logical one. Then it's up to the bird whether it wants to come back or not.

My Papa raised doves for nearly 30 years, when he died, my Mimi released them all... about 40. All but two came back to his aviary which she left open from then on. They all lived there and she kept feeding and watering them until the last one died... about 15 years later. They continued to raise families in a disintegrating aviary...

The coo of the collared dover always reminds me of my childhood at my grandparents. A couple of weeks ago I went back to my old university (I'm 48 now) and a dove started coo-ing. Hey same thing I did 😍, I rescued a abandoned a pigeon baby(roughly 10 days old) and raised him. The most interesting thing is everyday hid mom&dad used to come in a day 3/4 times and feed him and go. It's been more than a month and now he started flying. I leave him outside in the morning and it comes back to the home in the evening and plays with me some time(sits on my shoulder, bites my ears, makes some sounds...) and then sleep. Pigeons are lovely birds and identifies people😍😍. Recently I have seen that he found a partner❣️

And right On the Day that she passed, one of them made their Home in the corner of our Front Porch and just sat there quietly for 3 days. It was when we came back from her Funeral that it was no longer there. I'll never forget that Dove ever. It brought me Peace and I Missed it when it was gone. If a Dove came to my home now I would consider it nothing shirt of a blessing~. Ty for taking care of it.. ♥️♥️

What an amazing gift to have someone like this little dove in your life! Be grateful. The bonding was obvious. Like any family member, she may or may not be the responsibility you (realized you) asked for, but she’s yours now. The reason she wants to be close is because birds are flock animals. People who think birds should be thrown in a cage, room, or otherwise kept from their people family either don’t realize this, or are cruel. Hopefully she’ll bond with another dove as well, as she gets older. Also, if she gets sick, make sure to take her to an avian vet, not a cat / dog vet, because the anatomies are different in some key ways. Talk with parrot owners also for important information- like no candles, nonstick pans, perfumes, etc. Avian respiratory systems are many more times more sensitive than humans. Their varied diet is important as well (just as important to know what to avoid, like avocados). I’ll admit being a bird parent is far more work than a cat or dog

That reminds me at something that happened to me several years ago. When I lived with my parents, we had a man in the neighborhood who had a lot of carrier pigeons. One hot summer day one of this pigeons layed at our balcony and didn't look good. She had her mouth wide open and seemed to suffer by the hot sun. My father wanted her to leave the balcony but I said she is too weak to fly away. She was even too weak to stand up. I brought her some feed and a bowl of fresh water. She didn't eat anything but she drunk a lot. I had to fill the water in a smaller bowl and I placed it near her head so that she was able to drink without moving her body. After a while she stood up and then she vanished. Maybe two weeks later she came back (I recognized her by a ring around her leg) and she sat down and looked exactly in my direction. She sat there a long time and starred at me without moving. I was wondering and felt very strange. I've never had such a situation before. She came back every week and sometimes even a few times a day and starred at me. She also came with another pigeon which sat down in distance at a tree. Later I moved in another place and my parents told me that the pigeons come very often to them, if they were searching for something. Now it's been at least two or three years since this rescue and they are still coming and looking through the window of my parents. A while ago, I was there for visit and "my" pigeon came also and as soon as she noticed me, she seemed to be excited and she moved her head sidewards starring at me and rolling her eyes. I think she knows that I did something good for her and she wants to thank me at her way.

I think the 25 year lifespan just means a dove could live to that age. A dog COULD live to be 30, but it would be extremely rare. Edit: I looked up the lifespans of a few different Columbidae species, and it looks like racing pigeons are the ones that live to be a bit older.

Wow congrats on your success! One thing I e noticed is that ring net doves tend to be much tamer than other breeds such as mourning doves. And once you let them outside, they will always return for a while. But please don’t ever throw a bird up in the air. Some, like many doves, won’t open their wings when being thrown upward. Congrats on all of it, but especially the feeding! Since doves and pigeons produce crop milk, they are more more difficult to feed and raise. What a beautiful bird. AND a wonderful family for saving it.

We nurtured Emily back to health and as with Trigger, she wouldn't leave - actually Emily couldn't leave, she couldn't fly. We've had her now for 20 yrs!!! It's funny but we bought a dove at a bird farm for Emily, the gal asked us how we knew her sex and we told her it was her very sweet cooing - the gal told us we had a male haha - we couldn't change her name because she knew it - and very well!! So, we bought a female (: it didn't take much time at all for them to hang out and be best friends! Dove are awesome and very smart!!

Quail food and calcium grit. Ours likes strawberries. I realize your question is from a year ago but answering it in case anyone needs it. Idk about baby doves.

Hopefully, Trigger's instincts are still strong enough that she can avoid predators out in the wild, as well as strangers (people) that might do her harm or get kidnapped (birdnapped).

Pigeons can recognize individual faces like corvids and since pigeons and doves are technically the same bird I wouldn’t be surprised if she had the same ability. And she should be able to still recognize hawks and the such as predators so hopefully she’ll be fine

@@lookingupwithnathan9647 ... Yes let's hope so. I was also talking about cats & dogs. Obviously she is used to that pet dog, but she could possibly make a mistake of being friendly with a dog stranger that would think of her as food, not to mention cats that stay still & silent in the grass. Maybe even snakes up in a tree. Or poisoned seeds/kibble put out by people to control pests. Hopefully none of those.

I grew up on a farm on the west coast where September 1st is beginning of dove hunting season. That looked like it was somewhere on the west coast. For the sake of the family and bird’s life, I hope they bring it in doors during the hunting season.

Never been much of a bird person but there is a pair that nest above my door every year. They don’t really destroy anything so I let them be. They do startle me sometimes when I open the door and they fly off lol

@@KarelleDIY "There's no difference between a pigeon and a dove in scientific nomenclature, but colloquial English tends to categorize them by size. Something called a dove is generally smaller than something called a pigeon, but that's not always the case. A common pigeon, for example, is called both a rock dove and a rock pigeon."

You "guess you'll just wing it..." 😆 Sorry couldn't help myself for a perfect bird pun. Thank you for saving Trigger and making her part of your family no matter how crazy things get. You obviously have a kind family and are raising children to love animals and they took the initiative to save Trigger and that says a lot about how they're raised. I'm excited for their future and everyone else. 😀🥰🕊
