The most interesting thing is everyday hid mom&dad used to come in a day 3/4 times and feed him and go. It's been more than a month and now he started flying. I leave him outside in the morning and it comes back to the home in the evening and plays with me some time(sits on my shoulder, bites my ears, makes some sounds...) and then sleep. Pigeons are lovely birds and identifies people😍😍. Recently I have seen that he found a partner❣️

What an amazing gift to have someone like this little dove in your life! Be grateful. The bonding was obvious. Like any family member, she may or may not be the responsibility you (realized you) asked for, but she’s yours now. The reason she wants to be close is because birds are flock animals. People who think birds should be thrown in a cage, room, or otherwise kept from their people family either don’t realize this, or are cruel. Hopefully she’ll bond with another dove as well, as she gets older. Also, if she gets sick, make sure to take her to an avian vet, not a cat / dog vet, because the anatomies are different in some key ways. Talk with parrot owners also for important information- like no candles, nonstick pans, perfumes, etc. Avian respiratory systems are many more times more sensitive than humans. Their varied diet is important as well (just as important to know what to avoid, like avocados). I’ll admit being a bird parent is far more work than a cat or dog

That reminds me at something that happened to me several years ago. When I lived with my parents, we had a man in the neighborhood who had a lot of carrier pigeons. One hot summer day one of this pigeons layed at our balcony and didn't look good. She had her mouth wide open and seemed to suffer by the hot sun. My father wanted her to leave the balcony but I said she is too weak to fly away. She was even too weak to stand up. I brought her some feed and a bowl of fresh water. She didn't eat anything but she drunk a lot. I had to fill the water in a smaller bowl and I placed it near her head so that she was able to drink without moving her body. After a while she stood up and then she vanished. Maybe two weeks later she came back (I recognized her by a ring around her leg) and she sat down and looked exactly in my direction. She sat there a long time and starred at me without moving. I was wondering and felt very strange. I've never had such a situation before. She came back every week and sometimes even a few times a day and starred at me. She also came with another pigeon which sat down in distance at a tree. Later I moved in another place and my parents told me that the pigeons come very often to them, if they were searching for something. Now it's been at least two or three years since this rescue and they are still coming and looking through the window of my parents. A while ago, I was there for visit and "my" pigeon came also and as soon as she noticed me, she seemed to be excited and she moved her head sidewards starring at me and rolling her eyes. I think she knows that I did something good for her and she wants to thank me at her way.

I think the 25 year lifespan just means a dove could live to that age. A dog COULD live to be 30, but it would be extremely rare. Edit: I looked up the lifespans of a few different Columbidae species, and it looks like racing pigeons are the ones that live to be a bit older.

Wow congrats on your success! One thing I e noticed is that ring net doves tend to be much tamer than other breeds such as mourning doves. And once you let them outside, they will always return for a while. But please don’t ever throw a bird up in the air. Some, like many doves, won’t open their wings when being thrown upward. Congrats on all of it, but especially the feeding! Since doves and pigeons produce crop milk, they are more more difficult to feed and raise. What a beautiful bird. AND a wonderful family for saving it.

You "guess you'll just wing it..." 😆 Sorry couldn't help myself for a perfect bird pun. Thank you for saving Trigger and making her part of your family no matter how crazy things get. You obviously have a kind family and are raising children to love animals and they took the initiative to save Trigger and that says a lot about how they're raised. I'm excited for their future and everyone else. 😀🥰🕊

I know several people that raised baby doves. They are all like this. Live outside but constantly come and hang out with their families. Very loving birds.

Not sure how a hand raised pigeon me and my family released 2 miles from our 5th floor apt, somehow beat us back to home. Was waiting for us outside the window. One of my best memories.
