Is there space to keep the sleeping bags inside the tent while packed on the roof, or do I need to empty the tent prior to packing it together?

You would be able to keep sleeping bags inside the tent but we’d only recommend it if it’s a dry day as there could be the chance the bags would get wet from touching the wet canvas when it is packed.

When people look at their Certificate of Conformity (COC), the data denotes the maximum mass for the roof. It is suprising low in and easy to read in KG. You're welcome.

You left out a very important point. The indicated mass load for the roof is for when the vehicle is in motion. In the case of a roof tent, when the tent is folded and empty. The mass load for a vehicle's roof when stationary is significantly greater.

@@andrewjones-productions Have you ever seen a vehicle's COC, there is not a measured mass for roof in travel, only maximum mass as tested - far lower than these tents.

@@teamtempest844 Probably should caveat that shagging in these tents hasn't been considered in the design fatigue loading of the vehicle, although the likehood of crack propagation whilst you're penetrating is seemingly low. Probably a lot of factors that the CoCk doesn't consider when you're in the great outdoors in your birthday suit.

@@teamtempest844 yeah, explaining why there's a tent sized glory hole on the roof of my X5 will be difficult to explain to insurers. Nevertheless these solutions do make sense but have always considered the structural loadings on the chassis/pillars since like you alluded to, roof loadings such as these aren't considered in design. - sorry autistic engineer mode here.
