@chefcalebify
@chefcalebify Жыл бұрын
@@aherosdeath7227 not in a traditional sense. I wouldn't call this straight up jazz but more of a fusion. I am glad that jazz musicians from the past didn't listen to people tell them they weren't playing jazz. We would never have the wide selection we have today. However, I wish Kenny G would've been told that and listened. Soft jazz... That ain't jazz. But these two are taking complex chord progressions and complex hip hop polyrhythms to create a fusion. So no, this isn't traditional jazz but reinventing a song for a new generation, that is what it's all about.

Domi & Beck... mixing seriousousity and playfulness. I've never heard such a thing. I used to hear frome some who say jazz is a thinking person's music. This music teaches you to let it all go. I've been following these two for years now, and I'm not sure why I just now remembered this. But I saw a band in Portland one time at Dante's, supporting some other band. They had the same live set up as Domi and Beck, keyboard and drums facing each other like that. And they also played some wild, irreverent, super technical yet approachable jazz. That's what they've reminded me of this whole time, and it just now came to me. This was 10-15 years ago now, I can't remember what they were called. Maybe Moisture Throne? I think they were from Bend. Waaay ahead of their time.

@Maime Provost, Beautiful job, by a beautiful lady😉 from the Pacific Northwest!! Have you heard Dan Nimmer of Wynton Marsalis & Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra? Just before finding your video, I was listening to "Spiritual" by John Coltrane (recorded at Village Vanguard), and his wife, Alice C. was the pianist. but she played Harp & sang as well!! I think McCoy Tyner, is the pianist on other versions. When my very cute daughter was 4, she was already able to recognize his style!! I had received 2 free admissions to Mt. Hood Jazz festival. Audiences were sitting on different sections of a beautiful lawn on a sunny day!! On that specific day, they had McCoy Tyner & a lot of other giants!!! I think (but I'm not sure), McCoy T. noticed my very Cute daughter (4 years old), on the lawn. On his first break, he asked his security people to tell me that my daughter could sit next to him!! So she was seated, about 2 ft. away, on a little stool next to him🥰!! That college campus is heavenly!! The school's Jazz band truly sounds & is at pro-level!! McCoy Tyner was playing next to a beautiful river, that bisects the Mt. Hood College, and it has 2 Species of Salmon in it!!! I used to fish it for Salmon and Steelhead (Sea-going rainbow trout), between my science classes!!😊

Not only is she playing three separate parts at once, but all three of those parts are incredibly intricate, both tonally and rhythmically, AND its all synchronized and perfectly in the pocket!
