Congrats to whoever finishes 2nd in the Premier League coz MVG is on a runaway train right now and doesn’t look like stopping anytime soon. Not even playing at his best and still comfortably winning most matches. Smith gave him a real run for his money in the final and it’s so entertaining watching those two on form, they bring the best out of each other and the faster paced rhythm suits them both. One visit here or there can decide those types of matches and sometimes even one dart can be a deciding factor. Overall another enjoyable night of darts and great to watch.

The exact problem with the format I already expected that would happen last year. Last year 'luckily' no player was in a good form for a long period, so this didn't happen yet. Now that Van Gerwen is the best player in the world again the format gets very repetitive very quickly. The accidental challengers format really improved the Premier League. Such a shame they decided to go this route... Many great formats they could have made up/gone with, but this format is not one of them...

I admit i do find it super boring when any dominance happens in darts. The biggest appeal the sport has is unpredictability, so many different winners across events. If it loses that then it becomes as stale as football or tennis

Maybe he has just reached that age same as Anderson and needs to slow down so he can play his best darts. As Taylor retired at 60 and Anderson/ Wright are 7/ 8 years away from that.

Not excuses as such, but he's hardly Mr fitness, and stuff like that is very draining. I think Anderson lost his mojo through lockdown. Peter Wright's problem is that he could throw 6 inch nails , so changing darts is not solving the problem , he has dipped below top form. Age related? stamina ? Losing interest? Crowd pressure? Not being top dog? I think his throw is slow anyway and he is breaking his own rhythm throwing slower against the quickies. Only a theory, might be talking utter B******s.

I'm glad the final was enjoyable. Because apart from Dobey v Aspinall, the rest of the matches certainly weren't... still think this format is no good but I'll deal with it. That being said... MVG's 170 to leave 32 in leg 9 against Smith... that was the moment the pendulum swung in MVG's favour. 3 night wins in a row, the first man do that since this format got introduced. Will he stand alone when this campaign is over? I wouldn't bet against it right now but there's still a ways to go.

Edit: Just seen this confirmed, that 75.4 average, the lowest in Premier League history. Previous low was 75.68 by Robert Thornton when he lost 7-0 (we're back there again) to Dave Chisnall on Night 1 in Leeds in 2016.

It will be changed for next year. 8 players is too limiting, PDC made a mistake with this format. Same players over and over again becomes too familiar, not competitive.

because MVG played really bad. Look at the Average and yeah Gilding played well on that Day but Michael wasn't even close at A-Game.
