High tide and cloud of fairies on turn 2. Tap 1 for tide. Tap other for 2, drop fairie. untap both land, Tap both for 2, drop a 4 coat card.

Thanks for this helpful primer you are always my first stop to get an overview of a new set. Drafted Storm at LGS finding the lane open and it was so fun. Regretted passing a crab and Hermetic Study (not to mention a late quicksilver dagger pack 3) and ended up winning my match against the guy who ended up with the combo and beat me one game with it. Had Pashalik Mons with a matron to tutor for him, and the red one drop canttip that makes your storm uncounterable, two high tide and three empty the warrens. The coal elemental that adds three mana on etb and frantic search were also great. Wasn't sure about terminal moraine or Mishra's Factory as the mama base was so finicky. My first time drafting storm with any amount of success except for a few quick drafts of Strixhaven.

I drafted storm also and happened to hit Quicksilver Dagger early. Ended up with three crabs and two Hermitic Studies as well. Between storming into Empty the Warrens and pinging with the crab the deck did much better than I expected, especially if I could get High Tide out.

@@ryaninns it's funny I was hearing all kinds of trash talk about how content creators have poisoned people into thinking Storm is a viable archetype in draft. I dunno if I just had tremendous luck finding it open and getting passed Mons and Overmaster, but seems to me like it comes together pretty well out of the commons. High tide these toxic gamers were particularly down on. Oh well. One of them ate his words when I came back after a loss to take the match.

You can also blink the butcher when you cast it so you exile 2 creatures (one of them permanently).

with the tri lands, can’t you tap a land, float the mana, then bounce it to your hand and still play something on curve? (I know it slows down your curve overall if you have already have another land in hand)

Can you do the faceless butcher trick with a momentary blink instead of a sac effect? It counts as a different object when it comes back right? Plus you'd get another creature to exile.

@@limitedlevel-ups To be fair it means you'd want three color for the flashback so might not be common situation. You would have to have a lot of good ETBs to make just the white side worth having. More likely to have access to sacrifice in Black so your example made sense.

I'm confused about the advice to run 18 lands in a cycling deck. Doesn't it actually increase the risk of flooding by drawing often through cycling and pulling more lands than useful cards?

The idea here is when some portion of your lands are redraws, it’s better to hedge against mana screw rather than mana flood. It’s the opposite of when your deck has a bunch of spells with cycling, you should play fewer lands since some portion of your spells can cycle to find lands.
