For English speakers and young former Soviets, this film was one of the few American films in Soviet theaters and quite popular back in 80s in Former Soviet Union, hence the Russian comments

In the 1980s, there were already quite a few American films in the USSR. It's just ... the movie was good in every way.))

Good movie, but the soundtrack is what really made it. Even Richard Rush admitted that he owed a big debt to Dominic Frontiere.

@@johne7345 I'm awfully sorry, sir, on no account was I going to force my mind on you, but I'm glad that you appear to be of the same opinion as I am. As far as I know the British look upon such a manner of communication as cheek, I've completely got it out of my mind... I don't know whether you are from the United States or the UK, or maybe from another country, nevertheless, I'm sorry one more time! In the former Soviet Union, in the early eighties the mowie was a hit. Long ago I've been learning English, but for a long while I've been out of practice. I hope, sir, that you've been able to pick out my bastard English. I wish you all the best and good luck!

@@ЮрийС-ш6я Your meaning was perfectly clear, and I enjoyed reading your post. I had guessed your national origin and native language from your name. I assure you, your "bastard English" is VASTLY superior to my "bastard Russian." Circa 1970, as a physics major who had already studied German in high school, Russian was the obvious choice for a foreign language at university. :) (I love Russian music, particularly of the Romantic era, and my wife, who has studied ballet for years as a major part of her physical fitness regimen, and I enjoy and admire Russian ballet.)

@@johne7345 Sir, thank you ever so much for your reply, may the Lord bless you! My name in English transcription is written as Yuriy, I'm fifty three years old. Unfortunately, I'm completely out of practice and am unable to put out my thoughts and feelings as clearly, properly and expressively as a native speaker can. As I can pick out from the word combination "at university" and some elusive niceties, I may run the risks to suppose that you're from the United States, aren't you? At least as I comprehend your English looks like American English, isn't it? I hope that I'm not mistaken. May you be wealthy and healthy, and i wish you good luck!

while there's no disputing the original star wars soundtrack is arguably one of the most memorable in history, was the soundtrack for empire really much different? just curious, but i'll have to look it up and see. but this theme for the stuntman is something that i still whistle to this day. i would say that alone makes for a good argument that it was award-worthy.
