this match make me over thinking: for Owen as bottom player the obvious goal of him is trying to get submission. he shouldnt bother with sweeping his opponent. if u paying attention to Owen corner u guys gonna hear that Demian told Owen to go on top to convince judges that he doing a sweep. in IBJJF rule set u will get 2 points for sweeping. sweep means if u start ur position on bottom, u need to put ur opponent on his back and at the same time you need to stand up. if u end up forcing your opponent to fall on his back but u still lying on the mat, u only get 1 advantage. 1 advantage is given to u as a reward for attempting the sweep. so this advantage point is a bait for athletes to progress the game. I know this match has a different rule set, but we & the judges came from BJJ, which creates a bias that can influence to judge decision. come back to Owen, with why attempting leg submission is the best strategy. because every time ur doing footlock there is a high percentage that u force your opponent put their back/butt on the mat. so judges gonna see the sweeping attempt and submission attempt (u also get an advantage in IBJJF rules if u attempt a very convincing submission). let's move to Mejia. we know that Mejia failed to pass Owen's guard, and of course Owen also failed to sweep Mejia. but we can see that several times Mejia succeeded in passing Owen's leg (which led to an advantage point in IBJJF rules) and also had a moment to attempt foot lock from the top. so what is the best strategy for Mejia to win this match? should he pull the footlock from top? unfortunately footlock from top doesn't give u an advantage for passing guard, because there is no direct scenario to passing attempt while doing footlock from top.for me the best startegy is also sitting on your butt and attacking leg lock from there. MY FINAL CONCLUSION IS MEJIA HELPED OWEN WIN THE MATCH BY VOLUNTARILY PASSING OWEN GUARD. imagine if Mejia also sat on his butt from beginning, and start attacking leglock from there. i think we're gonna see a very close match and give the judges a very hard time to decide. no sweep attempt and no wasting energy trying to pass the guard enough about this match, how about the future of grappling or jiu-jitsu match. I think we gonna end up with a boring match, nobody trains their takedown, and no one cares about upper body submission. that's why it's important to improve our rules to force the athlete do a propper grappling or jiu-jitsu match. FU ALL

As an experienced White Belt, how does the guy on the bottom/defending 90% of this match win in the judges eyes? Whats the point in going for subs if you can win by stalling? Wild sport.

@dxveone Жыл бұрын
I’m with jwhansink, the top player needs to try an progress , he never never really threatened Owen other than 1 or 2 times diving over the guard on the head , yet Owen was trying to enter on every angle for those leg submissions
@MorganZajac-v6j Жыл бұрын
I'm no expert but I wouldn't say that Owen (bottom guy) was defending 90% of the match. Owen had guard and so was in a safe position from which he could attack Dominic's legs (which he was doing). Dominic would have to first pass to a more dominant position before he could attack, so Owen had the better position.

@VianneyDarty lol I am a woman, but no, I'm in a hotel at the moment. The Plaza Hotel in NYC! Your son won this match, by the way. Bullshit scoring system. All combat and sports, for that matter, are diluted, watered-down forms of combat. From my perspective, your son dominated him. If it were a real fight, he would best the shit outta that butt rug scooter.
@James.1_2-3 Жыл бұрын
@VianneyDarty at 7:50 mark, that white boy could have taken top position. Your son let him sit kn his ass long enough. White boy should have taken top position. Your sons style of bjj is better suited for men in real life. Being on top is ideal as he can throw punches. Laying on the asphalt and scooting around is not ideal. Your son vs the white boy in MMA and your son beats his ass. I don't understand white boy having such a sissy girl style. I was referencing the white boy as being the girl. So to clarify to you.
