Such a fantastic player. His game style was electric. The explosive power and spin. He was consistently right up with the big three (even if Federer quite old by then) for a year or two. My favourite player to watch ever besides Federer. And so consistently a great bloke. So glad that despite the injury, he retires a grand slam winner. Beating Djokovic in Rolland garros semi was another highlight.

At his peak, I am not sure if anyone in the history of the sport has hit the ball harder than Thiem. He just had explosive power off of both wings. I got to see him practice at the Open in 2017, and I couldn't believe how hard he was hitting the ball. It was a joy watching him play. I really hate the wrist injury derailed his career.

Could have won atleast two more slams, had it not been for facing two greatest players ever played tennis. Also, I may not know it, but with all those technology in sports, physio, why they don't make some inroads into asking the budding players not to use their forehands to flatten the tires on a highway. DelPo and Domi, used it too much, and should have preserved it a bit, or may be their teams and instructors involved would have asked to use it a tad less forcefully. Totally damaged their hands/wrists by over-forceful usage.

This guy is so disengaged and unfortunately not very creative - lots of respect for him and what happened but at least he could have found one thing close to his heart to change (he « bothered » us with save the ocean messages for years: he could have said that tennis events should reduce more plastic waste). Really dramatic to be in such mental state and a missed opportunity

Dominic Thiem: the most selfish top 5 in the history of ATP. Thiem was born near Vienna, and lives in Vienna, the city which once again has been voted as having the highest quality of life in the world by United Nations, The Economist and Mercer surveys. Thiem earned 30 million dollars of prize money, solely from tennis tournaments (not including sponsors money). That's 12th ranked of all-time tennis earnings. In April 2020, a fund was created to help 200 or less ranked tennis players survive the period of no tennis tournaments due to Covid. Top 5 ATP players were supposed to donate 10.000 dollars to the fund. Others less. They all gave (Djokovic, Nadal, Federer, Medvedev), except world number 3 - Dominic Thiem. He didn't give a cent. When asked why he didn't donate a cent to the fund he replied to an Austrian newspaper Krone: "They (less ranked than 200) won't starve. There is no guarantee of success in life (including being a tennis player)". Thiem's career went down the drain since that event. Karma.
