Thanks gents, I really enjoyed this interview. Earlier this year I actually revisted and watched all 7 series of GamesMaster. It was a lot of fun and very nostlagic. The 90s were some good times!

What a great interview! I can firmly say GM was partially responsible for my videogame addiction. DD made it feel like a more grown-up show with his dry wit. Thanks for this.

My arcade machine has t-moulding supplied by Dominic Diamond's dad. Years ago, I was building an arcade machine from scratch. One thing I couldn't find was the trim, or the t-moulding that went round the edges. I looked in shops for it, and couldn't find it anywhere, but one day, at a till in one of the shops I was looking on, I noticed it had some round the edge and I thought 'shop fitter'. So I got the yellow pages out, and the first person I spoke to was a nice Scottish chap, and I tried to explain what I was trying to do. He said 'my son would be right into that, he hosts a TV show about games'. The shop fitter was Dominic Diamond's dad. So there's my random connection to DD, my arcade machine has t-moulding supplied by Dominic Diamond's dad.

I love Dominic, I loved all the pants jokes, the sarcasm and the "banter" on Gamesmaster. The mans a gaming legend, one of the pillars of the 90s video game scene who somehow managed to straddle being cool and being a complete nerd. Great interview Neil, and CONGRATULATIONS on your marriage.

Pleasantly surprised you managed to get hold of DD for this interview Neil, great job as always. I think many of us were aware that Dominik wanted to 'move on' after GM ended, hence his reluctance to participate in the current retro scene (I think Digitiser's Mr. Biffo has approached him before about that). I'd followed him for a few years as DJ on CJAQ 96.9 in Calgary as his morning show was fun to listen to online around lunchtime. Hope he crops up again from time to time, even if it's just for online appearances - he's got a lot to add to the retro scene.

I’ve figured out why Dave “Games Animal” Perry was bleary eyed in that moment. Dominic had forced him to throw the competition. He’s such a good gamer he made it look convincing that it was a mistake. His pride was seriously hurt. Because he really was a legendary gamer.

Being a fellow Scotsman I was always a fan of Gamesmaster and Dominik's general presentation style and comedic timing. A brilliant interview. I always thought Dominik was very confident and the clothes he wore on GM were part of that. But that wasn’t the case. Amazing stuff - fantastic interview right here. I would have been about ten when GM started airing and it was the reason I worked out how to use the family VHS player recording function. Hard to explain now to the smartphone generation just how important it was to gamers to actually see video games in action - I particularly recall re-watching again and again the Ridge Racer PS1 preview and being blown away. Eye watering stuff for a young lad and just so funny and cool and defining. Thanks.

This is a brilliant interview, thanks for doing this. It's so strange because computer games have been a big part of my life back then and now (I became a video game programmer), and back in the day I remember seeing GamesMaster, and never really liked it too much, i think perhaps because of that compressed format the Dominik talked about, I always felt like the show was a little thin in that respect. But what I do remember (and it's hard for people born later to realise this), that video games were very much and underground thing back then, they didn't appear anywhere and weren't really acknowledged even though all "the kids" were playing them and loving them. GamesMaster was the ONLY mainstream TV that even mentioned video games, but for something to get on TV with video games as it's subject was showing that the golden age of video games was only just beginning. And for that I pay proper respects to GamesMaster.

Game Master was one of if not the best video game magazine show of live challenges with players and celebs and was the internet before the internet, never missed an episode, even stood up a date rather than miss an episode, so thank you, Dominik for that.. In regards to the E-sports comment, maybe for the UK, the show was the showcase for this, but was and had been done in the United States some ten years previously with the show "Starcade" where people went up against other players of the latest and greatest arcade games, But Games Master brought the rest of the gaming aspects these other shows failed to do. Great interview. Love to see Mr.Diamond as always.
