THIS... IS... MEKONE! Let's try to get some fun wins with this nation under our belts, as I'm REALLY excited to tackle the advanced version of these guys! SOOOO underrated! Do you guys have any smash wins with Mekone? If so: how did you do it?

Honestly the best faction to learn the game imo. Very simple, teaches good economy management. Punishing if you fuck up against ubar or don't handle bad events well.

For anyone curious about the promoted Helotes, here is what the promotion does: Peltast: Morale 7 -> 10 Armor 2 -> 7 Ekdromos/Hoplite Morale 7 -> 11 I've noticed a curious phenomenon with this nation in that sometimes when your helotes start running, your gigantes will too, so morale management is pretty helpful for this nation overall (see: battle fury on gigantes). Even with a taskmaster, most helotes are only at 9-10 morale, which is pretty poor overall even though the units are cheaper. And as we know human troops are usually better recipients for army buffs due to having more units per square (especially formation fighters like hoplites), provided there is no battlefield spell to wipe them out before they can make contact like foul vapors.

Amazing points, and thank you for the detailed information for those digging for a bit more! I had to (unfortunately) cut the entire promotion section to whittle the beginner's guide down, but it will certainly be on the advanced one! Glad to see you around again ;)

@AOReaper idk why but I find human troops the most interesting to discuss, probably because of the number of times I got my ass beat by the AI while still learning the game and not understanding what makes them useful or desirable as units lol but there's a lot to enjoy about a length 4 spearman on a nation with both fire and earth access and above average morale pending promotion as well as formation fighter. Spearmen in general are a unit class that I'm always trying to figure out how to make work, since repels are unreliable and their damage is just so pitiful without magic

30:37 Its also a setting in the options Give orders to new commanders Only makes mages research when you recruit them
@AOReaper2 ай бұрын
VERY true, and that's super helpful while you've been playing for a while, but I've found (at least with my friends I've introduced) that its almost better to have them focus on each and every new hero and telling them to research, forge, or do something else. Otherwise, literally all of them never touch their mages until they get so populated that the screen shrinks then they notice they exist hahahaha.

Very detailed and comprehensive explanation. Nice and simple. The only thing I feel is missing are research goals for later stages of the game. Maybe some examples of effective spell setups for mages, like 'F2 can spam fireballs'.

Thank you! I was aiming the video at beginner's, and I'd had a few comments in the past about always making my focus on research and high level stuff too much when beginner's are struggling to figure out how to even do a basic turn, so I had to cut a lot out to have time for the super detailed expansion part. In the advanced guide, however, we will be going DEEEEEP down the rabbit hole on pretender setups, research goals (and how to adjust based on not only enemy nations, but game states, and even what bless you see on their armies mid-game) I tried to discuss research goals during the expansion phase, I hope that helps (and lasts for the first year, and WHY I chose what I did), but in the advanced guide (tm) I will go much deeper in this way ;)

I look at nations like Eriu and they got like one special summons? Ilwinter is all over the place sometimes.
@AOReaper29 күн бұрын
Hahaha, you're not wrong! Illwinter can be all over the place in a LOT of cases, but that's part of the charm of the game. They never lose their "made by two guys in their basement" feel hahaha ;) Thanks for the comment and feedback! Greatly appreciated!

Question. When mods inevitably get into full swing for dom6. Do you plan on doing modded nation reviews?
@AOReaper2 ай бұрын
No, and I say that knowing full well how easily I could change my mind on that, but as of right now, I feel the following reasons are why not: 1. Beginner's don't play modded nations often, so it would alienate half of my viewership 2. Modded nations are rarely balanced well at all 3. Modded nations will NOT exist in 90% of your played games with MP, so the guide would alienate even MORE people (primarily MP players) 4. I couldn't bring myself to half-ass a guide, so I'd be spending the same amount of time on one of those guides, and it would only apply to the limited people I've already discussed. If I grow to the size of having an editor that helps me out, I'd certainly consider it (and likely do it), but as of right now in the interest of time management for myself, I don't see myself doing it.

Ah yes, the Gigachad nation too gigachad to worship anyone smaller than themselves. Love those Gigante Hoplites though.

you make good content you should put titles on your thumbnails, i think you'd get more clicks
@AOReaper25 күн бұрын
I appreciate that, thank you! I'll start including titles on the thumbnails, once I figure out an easy way to make them readable in such a small format! Thank you for the comment and advice! I'll definitely take it!

One fun thing i learned avout Mekone is the helot promotion Some nerd told me that the promoted helot is way better than the version of the better troop you buy or just a helot with high taskmaster Other than that i love playing Mekone cus later their unit art gets ugly
@AOReaper2 ай бұрын
Nerds (at least in Dominions circles) are the alphas running around stomping people = they have good advice about these things ;) And yea, they're phenomenal, but going into the promotions with a beginner's guide felt a little iffy, so I left it out (it was long enough as it was, had to choose to cut SOME stuff).

Yea, in a beginner's guide I won't be diving that deeply for them, but it is a great point for the advanced guide when I make it!

If you're only interested to your thug fatigue weight less is cheaper and do more
@AOReaper2 ай бұрын
Yes, but I feel the reinvig is better overall, given how often you have naked mages running around for Mekone casting (once they get personal ironskin and such). That, and I doubt the beginner's are going to have some hyper focused thug playstyle, but I'll DEFINITELY cover all of the options in the advanced guide.
