Another reason the resources go up when you build a fort in a province is the number you see for resources is actually only half of what is there. You only get access to the other hidden 50% when a fort is built. Page 23 of the dom6 manual for reference.

It's funny I watched like all 60 episodes of the giant Ryleh multiplayer game, and I learned so much random nonsense like "oh if the enemy has a nearly invincible supercombatant teleport raiding you, you can trap it with floating mind and (some item I forgot about already)" and it's cool. But later I was like, "Man, I wonder how you move your dudes around in this game. How do you recruit stuff? What do sites do?" Loving this series.

These three videos are the definitive guide to get into Dominions, imo. It clears things enough to start playing with an understanding of things and start building from there. And it isn't 10 hours of footage.

It’s so much fun. I’ve only Dom5, but it’s still a lot of fun. What’s really cool, is the different eras offer different experiences/nations/playstyles. Nearly 150 hours and have mostly only played early age. Only mods have been map mods. There’s a map I primarily use with around 1300 provinces. Crank up the money resources and recruitment amount, 10 other nations, it’s super fun.

This was the perfect video for me to watch! Despite "knowing" the facts of how Forts work, with admin, gold, pulling from adjacent provinces, etc. - I found myself stuck at the point in the game where I have to start building new forts and recruiting. I was able to design a Pretender reasonably well, expand reasonably well, but transitioning into the midgame was a struggle because I vastly overbuilt my forts. Specifically I had this mindset of building forts at chokepoints being valuable, and wasn't sure just how much of an issue it is to build multiple forts next to each other, so I would be be stuck making like 6 or 7 forts around my borders. This gives me a much clearer idea of where I should be building them, thank you 🙂 I think personally my next biggest obstacle is transitioning my armies into using mages effectively. With so many spells, its quite easy to be overwhelmed, and I'm not quite sure how to effectively script/protect my mages / what I should be spending their combat turns on or how many I should be bringing in a battle. But that is at least a lot easier to experiment with :p
@naturalbornpatriot63692 ай бұрын
Slap a bunch of mages in a blob of units to protect from fliers, it’s easy to forget about assigning gems to mages. I always go imprisoned to get a simple bless on sacreds but really good scales. So by the time your pretender comes online, you’ve most likely have over a hundred gems stockpiled. AI late game magic is pretty challenging, otherwise it’s easy

I bought Dom4, played a bit, and didnt really take off with it. Your content (plus Das and the Dom6 manual) has helped push me deeper into this wonderful series. A lot of my "basic mechanics" knowledge feels fine, now I'm just trying to learn what is possible, eg. how elf/giant nations work, what spells are notable in the glamour path, how do blood-heavy nations work. Looking forward to all your new content

Could be worth showing how forts are used in combat and how sieges work. Along with how sieges work with a defending army coming to relieve it from another province. And how retreating works for units sallying forth. Things like defending mages don't appear in the initial battle if they're not set to patrolling the province and what you can do to help beseiged forces. And vice versa what you can do to win sieges and how certain unit types can be very strong like flyers. Then there's underwater sieges and how they work. I haven't even seen how a siege works in the nexus, I guess it's just like a regular one but with a weird map? I suppose underwater stuff would require a different video. Oh and caves, certain spells don't work in caves I think? Given how huge the cave systems can be in this game that's a whole new ball game for multiplayer as well. Does the AI actually use cave provinces or does it ignore them?

Excellent video! Very informative! What I would like to see next is how to properly handle blood magic, blood hunting and what not. I think the thing I struggle in regards to blood is how to efficiently setup blood hunters, how many each province with 7500 (I think) population needs and so on.

Getting into detail is brilliant and why I come onto your videos to learnt he game. One editing tip I may suggest is summarising tactics and what to do some times. Would make it easy to follow when it's listed on screen.
@nicolabellumat10 ай бұрын
I think you should have explained that recruiting sacred units consumes holy points, and that these are tied to your dominion strength. With this you would have covered all the stats showed in the recruitment screen. Another than that, the guide is very good for newcomers. It is difficult making it short, since all the stats and systems are deeply interconnected. But 30 minutes for the topics covered seems reasonable.

Is there a way to see where auto-searching mages are moving next? I notice they're not getting movement order arrows the turn after searching. I'd like to be able to anticipate where they go to, like a border province where there might be a fight.

I am surprised that forts provide such a small bonus to gold! I kinda thought they were the main way to boost you income. Awesome video again! Would love to see anything on a couple of super broad army strategies. I know mages are really strong with the right spells, and thugs are tough one-man armies, but... what are good spells? HOW tough is a thug? What key elements or items should demand attention right away?

Great video and as others mention all the information is super valuable and still achieves your goal of not dispelling the joy of discovery. However, these tutorials could definitely benefit from some more focus as I felt the information here could have easily been split into two videos. Just helps keep the information more coherent, easier to follow, and is a more manageable chunk to absorb. Great stuff!

wanted to let you know youve been really helping me out with these videos as a new player to dominions im having a lot of fun but there is a lot to learn still. i wanted to ask, do only sacred units benefit from blessings? and if so then how do i generate more holy points?
@mysticcity916610 ай бұрын
The only other unit that benefits from blesses is your pretender God. He/She will be blessed when fighting inside friendly dominion. Holy points are tied to your pretender's dominion value that you picked when you designed them. Once the game starts you can increase it by building temples (each 5 temples will increase it by 1).

If your Dominion Strength gets up to 11 (including Temples/thrones/whatever) does that have a 5% chance of producing 2 candles or is the extra 5% wasted?
@LucidTactics10 ай бұрын
No 5% of 2 candles, so the main benefit of higher dom is gone. However when one of your candles bumps into an enemy candle - theres a bigger chance it wins the higher your dom score is (up to 20).

Great question. land provinces only, but includes provinces blocked by mountains and rivers! For aquatic forts, they only count underwater provinces, not land.

I wish I knew about this series of games a long time ago. It ticks all the boxes for me. I actually like the wonky scripted combat, I would like to be able to use close range spells better though. They are almost useless on most mages, since you honestly are just gonna die in any melee with most characters. Even big career giants just end up getting conditioned to hell

If you go to game preferences iirc from the escape menu there’s an option to have every new mage auto research. Theres also an option for the game to warn you when you end turn if you have idle commanders- but that can be annoying with scouts
