I was in my 20s before I saw my first Black gymnast (male or female) and that was "Awesome Dawson" Dominique Dawes and Betty Okino (who was black and Romanian mixed). They broke that glass ceiling and the rest is history! (Herstory!) So happy for her. If I recall, she helped the US dream team win a riveting close win against the Russians to team gold!

She was a phenomenal athlete. She had longer arms and legs than a lot of the top gymnasts and she always made such graceful lines with them much as a ballet dancer would. It always added that extras touch of artistic grace to her routines. It is good to see her again all these years later still as beautiful, graceful and humble as she ever was. One of my all time favorite gymnasts.

I remember watching Dominique Dawes and Dominique Moceanu compete in the floor exercise, i think for all-around. Dom M was absolutely adorable but Dom D WOOOOW'ed with power and skill and i was so shocked and disappointed when they gave it to Dom M.
