The coach (Kelli Hill) was right - she gave it a shot. It just wasn't her day to be the world champion.

I've read so many things on the internet about the broken connection between Dawes and Hill. But you never know what is real and what is not in these days.

@@Boban1611 yes I've read that too. But this competition was 31 years ago, and Kelli Hill was her coach for some years afterwards so I gather it was a coach-gymnast relationship then. I got the impression that the relationship broke down in more recent years, but like you suggested, who knows what the truth is.

she was expected not even to make any final, as Stryg was supposed to be usa number 2, she almost won the competition if not for this vault

Yeah. Kelli Hill’s words of encouragement were as much for Dominique’s fans as for her, because I don’t think anyone expected her to be in a position to win a world title. Shannon was the obvious favorite and was nearly the Olympic champion the year before. But once Dominique proved she deserved that consideration, it was easy to root for her and so devastating to see it end that way. Just wish she could have had four solid routines and let the chips fall where they may, medal or not.

She must have felt such pressure.... being in such a promising spot before the last rotation.

How tragic! Poor girl. Is it Milosovici's floor music in the background btw?
@Boban1611Ай бұрын
Yes it was! I had to check it first... since Dominique was shown, I had no clue... who was on the Floor on that special moment, but I checked the Final Competition and it was Lavinia Milosovici.... It is a nice music and actually added to the dramatic development on Horse Vault too!

@@Boban1611 Thanks for checking! Yes, the dramatic music suited this tragic moment for Dominique. I almost get the feeling she was distracted by the spooky sounds.

interesting with the 92 rules ( top scor) she would have won
@Boban1611Ай бұрын
Why did they change the rule in the first place? How is it today? Since I've lost the contact to modern Gymnastics (sort of) Do the women still show two vaults in the Team Competition and the All Around? Does the best count or is the average chosen? Or did they finally overthrow the whole system and only one Vault can be shown and taken to account?
@MarketoromagnoloАй бұрын
@@Boban1611 until 92 gymnasts allowed to compete 2 vaults ( even from same family) on team and all around, with best vaults to count, after 92, they had 2 compete 2 vaults with the score as average of 2 vaults, after 96 the same but 2 vaults from different families
