I pivoted in 2015, right before I turned 50. I left my husband in TX and moved back to St. Louis with no job and 2 kids to support. I had my faith, my friends and a lot of anger that kept me motivated to keep moving forward towards success in life. 8 years later my life is so blessed! It’s the best decision I ever made… and also the hardest thing I’ve ever been through.

Going thru this now. I just walked away from a VP position in a very toxic workplace. Doing what I love. 59 years young and I couldn't take it. Moments of defeat, doubt, fear and anger are flowing. But I know I did the right thing. I will find my wayy❤

@lisad8551. At 58, I also walked away from high level position due to a toxic workplace. It was the career of a life time but my integrity meant more than anything else. I may not be making the salary that I did nor have the power and prestige that came with the title but I am so much happier and healthier. 3 yrs later, I realize what a gift/blessing quitting that position really was. Good luck.

All the best to you. I did the same thing at 59 and am three years into it. Walking away from an executive level position and all its perks is a courageous decision (I keep telling myself that). Everyday is a learning experience and an adventure.

Eight years ago my husband suffered a fatal heart event while we were on vacation in Mexico. He was 62. I spent a most of my 60's in a fog, dealing with guilt, moving, and adjusting to my new normal. Thank God for my children, their spouses, my seven Grandchildren, and great friendships. In March I celebrated my 70th birthday and things are going great. Recently I was chatting with someone with all that and the words, "before life interrupted" popped out of my mouth. That was it completely! Life Interrupted

I'm 46 y/o and after 17 years of marriage (the last 4.5 years have been TERRIBLE), I am going thru the grieving process of accepting that this union may not ever be healthy again. I can only do what I can do. It is an unrealistic expectation to control/change my spouse. I needed this podcast. I'm very grateful for you sharing your experience and perspective.

Dominique where were you 20 years ago? I pivoted right into darkness and I didn't come out for 20 years. You are the poster child for the successful midlife pivot. You sure deserve it. I must say also that I have seen the light and I am recovering from that darkness. I'm afraid that doesn't happen real quickly and that's 70 it's kind of scary. Well it's always scary. I first left my job of 22 years and 4 months later I left my marriage of 27 years. I lost myself a long time ago but I will not give up on that. I'm so happy to find you today.

Support from anyone, family, friends…is a must! I felt that I couldn’t talk to anybody because I knew that nobody would understand. Most horrible thing to go through! Was my choice and after 18 years no matter what it took, I took that leap of faith and stayed strong for my dreams. God was with me through it all the good and the bad and placed me where I was meant to be❤

Excellent podcast! Yes, focus on health; spiritual, psychological, social, physical, and mental! And remember that you can spend your time productively or not. I’ve had severe challenges, but I was determined to rise above it all. At 57 I became a graduate student by 62 I had two masters degrees, by God’s grace & a super supportive husband. I pray that every woman attending this podcast will be blessed with resources she needs for success. As Dominique says, “Be bold & be blessed”

My voice kept telling me I needed to buy and decorate a cute little place in Italy with my husband. Luckily after a little arm twisting my husband went along with it. We are both empty nesters retiring soon and we did that whole look at each other and said who are you and now what do we do. It has been such a journey, not easy at times but extremely fulfilling. I’m pretty conservative so this was way out of my comfort zone! What you spoke to about making yourself a little uncomfortable and enjoy the journey, that really resonates with me. A little voice kept telling me, go for it!

Was cleaning out my closets and preparing for 2024 while listening to your podcast. It was interesting and really resonated with many aspects that occurred in my life. Thanks for your perspective and courage to be vulnerable/transparent. Agree that life happens when we simply take action and move forward - even if small steps I'm looking ahead with intent to engage with more folks, do what I enjoy most, and explore at least one new thing monthly. Appreciate you, and excited for future opportunities and making better choices to create monumental joy & fun in my life ❤.

This is a topic that resonates with so many women, professionally and personally. Is like going through a new rebirth. Every woman goes through that at some point in life. Peeling layers of years of believes and preconceptions. To love ourselves in a way we have to take the time to dig deep and learn who we really are and see all the successes we are capable of. Strong determined women, down on their knees. Some days are better than others. It happens one step and milestone at a time until the longing for the old hurts heal and no longer bleed. It takes times and prayer. A necessary process to make us wiser and stronger. Thank you, Dominique for your transparency, honesty and just by getting real in this matter. Anyone that has gone through this knows it is a real challenge. But in the end, WE SURVIVED.

Now I'm 79 and just trying to get by, but love the advice and so wonderful that younger women can be so knowledgeable on what to do and how to do it with all this wonderful information that's out there. You are a very wise woman. ❤

Just because we transition from one stage into another does not mean we are " imploding ". It takes much reasoned, measured, and honest thought; grace towards yourself and others, perhaps forgiveness, and courage. It's called LIFE. Brava.

It’s been great to hear about your experience. I’m 53 and after 23 years building a successful career, my husband and I had to leave our country and start over in the US to give our teenage son opportunities we had but he won’t . It’s been so hard and challenging to face all the new things at once, including a new language, but I truly believe that God needs us to learn and grow from this experience to be able to embrace His highest purpose. I’ll put your 7 steps in motion. It’s awesome to see how much I can really do to be better. Thank you so much 🙏🏻

I absolutely love you and so happy I found you 3 years ago. I have been following you and so much resonated with me. I became divorced in 2010 and felt I didn't know where I belonged anymore. In 2014 I left my home state and my 25+ year career to move to Florida where I always felt I needed to be in the second part of my life. The sale of my home, the new job and so many new welcoming friends made the transition easier. As you said, you have to have faith and know it will all work out. I wish you the best my dear.

Your words are encouraging. I would like to add, don't overthink it. I am a woman of faith as well. I didn't have time to do all of that. My workplace was toxic, my home life is toxic, I have no relationships to anchor me. All I had was God and my faith in myself. I quit with no plan, and I am moving forward with a vengeance. I am being blessed financially in places that I did not see. This happened within the 2 weeks that I said Adios. Now, I can be intentional on my next career move. Social media is an Avenue I plan on using, but in the meantime my goal is to utilize my Psychology degree and get my master's in public administration and find a job in service. I journal and keep vision boards, but in the midst of it, I trust God and myself. I can't make it if I put all my trust in this broken world. We all trying to figure it out.

Just watching my body change for the better is huge. Now I am exploring HRT. Need to regulate my sleep and help my brain fog. And also continuing my journey of learning piano. Loving that!

I always said be independent. Then it happened to me 4 children and 21 years of marriage ended just like that. It sent me into the working world from being a stay at home mom, home daycare. That working world sent me through many changes and all made me grow. Ending my career after 14 years at my last position which I started at age 59. Retirement two years ago. A single mom with a career and in a non committal relationship for 25 of those years I too took that long look at how I lost myself in that relationship. After several years of knowing I had to break it off. I could not tell you the amount of confidence I gained. That was four years ago and only now do I feel the need for someone in my life. And being two years retired and working solely on my health and fitness I am ready for a new challenge. My thoughts are to be an influencer like you Dominique only on a smaller scale. Since I am 75 I am thinking, Flourishing into the 70's. Not knowing where to start is a problem for me. Today and your future podcast could bring a pivot in my life. Thank you❤

Yes, making friends in this stage of life is really hard especially for introverts and us moms to disabled children. It's very isolating. I don't mind being alone, but I do need friends. And being an introvert and shy makes it a challenge. The last friend I made was because I was referring her to my caregiver since she also had an adult child with a disability. Kind of beautiful actually.

We literally built together. We built it no contractor’s. It’s built on land his family homestead and won’t give it up the value is 3x’s as much! First it’s 50yrs newer(AK house!) I sold my heritage land to help financially build the house so now he stripped me of my heritage 😢. So much more… I will say, I will NOt live in anger but my heart is breaking.

I'm 54 years old, divorced since 2012 after twenty years of marriage and I have one son who is 33 years old. I'm in the process of reinventing my life as well. For 32 years, I've been in the media as Account Executive and have been blessed with a very lucrative income. It's a hard decision to make a change but at the same time very exciting. I have met a man who is my soulmate and who I love dearly. My choices are based on my happiness and not based on superficial reasons. I truly admire you and have followed you for years. Oh, by the way, my friend and former colleague, Lisa Fischer Gibson, interviewed you a while back on her podcast. You are truly an inspiration for so many women who are flourishing in their 50's❤. I can so relate with this…mine was after a 20 yr marriage back in 2014. I was able to reinvent & bounce back by 2016 all while in the beginning stages of menopause with purchase of my home solo & a mom of 2 almost adult children. Then I lost my mom & a company closure in 2019…then the pandemic hit & a career I’ve had for 14+ years has been very difficult to obtain a full time job in. At 55 years young, I am at the point where I need to pivot in all areas of my lifestyle fe now that I am an empty nester. Thank you for this video.

Totally agree, Bethenny Frankel said it best - “It’s desperate, it’s destructive, and it’s rampant". As for KZbinrs who shill skin care products and extol how fantastic they are all while using filters they obviously have no moral compass whatsoever.

I don't believe Dominique does use filters - you'd be surprised what good lighting can do. I actually think she's a great example of growing old, and looking great. She's told us what she's had done, and it's not for everyone, but it is for some. I have Botox and have had fillers, though you wouldn't necessarily know, and I feel much better about myself for it

Great conversation as always Dominique. So true in so many ways. My life took a turn last year when I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, aged 45. I went through a period of extremely traumatic illness, then had terrible depression and anxiety because of it. Like you, I'm a positive person, so these feelings were so alien to me, and it took a LOT to get myself through those days. Obviously, I still have the illness hanging over me, but I live life as fully as I can, remembering that every day is a gift - something we should all do, but we so easily take things for granted. Be bold and truly live your life, as you get one time round ❤

I was first drawn to you (your channel) because of your "personal" life with your job, your husband, your mom, your day-to-day trials and tribulations. It was almost like a soap opera . . but a very glamorous "soap opera!" Your personal "stuff" was the big hook for me, regardless of the glamor. I'm still drawn to that personal content. I think you're a very smart, beautiful woman with an exciting life. I'm hoping you continue that exciting lifestyle. It's analogous to a TV show. It makes me want to watch your show every day. I guess what I'm trying to convey to you is that I'm drawn into your "life," with all the good--the bad--and everything in between. So . . . I'm championing the plan that showcases your personal life . . . wherever that takes you.

I have recently been displaced from my job. I’m forced to pívot during midlife but grateful that I’m in a good place emotionally, mentally and physically. I’m expecting something even better to come! Time to have faith, dream big and believe it will all work out for my hood and that of my family 🙌🏼

What a informative Pod Cast today. I am on good shift now. My interest have changed and it is making me a better person. God, yes! All things are possible through christ who strengthens us. I have found journaling 20 years ago and looking back and reading it now, started out negative which is more positive now. God brought me through it. I am because of Gods love. ❤️

Dominique, you're amazing. I think it's incredible that you've brought this professional quality to KZbin. I watched you from the beginning, but have recently rediscovered you. I love hearing you speak on your new podcasts--what you have to say and the grace and eloquence in how you say it. What an excellent way to pivot from your news career.

Thank you for bringing such a personal touch to your videos. You have helped me with my makeup. I loved you and Mom's relationship & like you, I thought Me & Mom would enjoy the last years together. She was supposed to be a centenarian. She passed in 2019 & I have just really come out of a depression of sadness & loneliness. When, I read this I screech but Truth is not for the weak of mind. WOW was this conversation very near & dear to my heart. I started a KZbin channel for the mature woman, about 3+ years ago when I was going to be an empty nester. Now I know I can be a business woman and create something of my own. I just don’t know the business background of KZbin. How to make money? How to ask/read a contract? What contract is legitimate? How to become an entrepreneur with my KZbin channel? I’d love to hear a podcast about that! Thanks so much!

Hello there, Super Dominique 😊 I'm slightly older.... But after a very chaotic life, it's the small things that I seek for balance. I adore my dog, rescue cats and horse. They keep me grounded and at peace. And a sense of peace is vitally important after a crisis in 2018 that almost ended my life. I'm striving for work: school: art balance. Above all, I'm keenly aware of my mental state by sleeping well. You mentioned a Women's Health Retreat... Where may I find that? Thank YOU SO MUCH for taking on all of these subjects. Kind good regards & continued success 🎉🎉🎉🎉

We are going on 40years this year. High-school sweethearts. We raised 2 daughters and have 6 grandchildren. We are both 58. I was blessed to retire 5 years ago at 53. My husband retired in Feb at 58. We had our kids young and then saved, saved, saved while I worked. Now we are traveling. I think laughter and being able to laugh at and with each other is so important. Communication is key as well. Don't sweat the small things. I know we are so so blessed!!! We try to tell ourself and each other that every day. There have been ups and downs in our marriage just like everyone but you grab onto each other and hang on. Life is short and the grass is not greener on the other side of the fence. LIVE, LOVE, AND LAUGH❤

@@sheraria Loved you reply! I am 67 and the love of my life My Hubby is 68. We feel the very same. Keeping a good sense of humor and laughing is so very important to us. Seems like we have been on the same path as you. We worked hard, raised our children in a church faith filled environment and Saved, Saved, Saved since our 30's. We were blessed enough to be able to comfortably retire at 65 yrs of age. You are correct there have been a few ups and downs in our lives but we clung to each other and never let go. Don't sweat the SMALL STUFF and don't be selfish as well. To many people these days feel their happiness is really all that matters. We believe in making each other happy which in turn makes us happy ourselves. As you and Erma Bombeck said "The Grass is not Greener on the other side" We are blessed to LIVE, LOVE AND LAUGH till death do us part❤

I am 52 and undergoing major life changes and it’s been a process of growth and a process of getting real and being honest, it’s also been a process of realizing that my life is not a Hallmark movie and I no longer get to be vague or live on the surface. Excellent, excellent podcast, Dominique ‼️ Thank you for your openness and honesty. (Spoken from a 70 year old, blonde, still in shape (mostly 😂) hiker, walker and yogi). I’ve been thru much the same the last 42 years including the death of a newborn, motherhood of two others, left a 17 yr marriage in midlife, returned to graduate school as a single mom in midlife, dating, remarriage, moved to a new city at age 50, now back to my home town and wonderful grandmotherhood - and lots more in between. Thanks for saying that we can accept the saggy skin - (it’s actually AOK with me), and that it’s NOT what you see in the mirror. Thank you for advertising and encouraging personal therapy, and being open about healing issues from your past with your father. And yes, GOD HAS GOT US ALL‼️
